Mountain Hardwear gave the Lyell SL -15 Down Sleeping Bag a waterproof breathable laminate and DWR coating to keep you dry and comfortable in most winter conditions. The 600-fill down holds onto your body heat, and Mountain Hardwear's ergonomic collar and face gasket surround your face and head to seal out cold air. The watertight construction prevents snow from soaking the down fill, since wet down loses its loft and tends not to keep you as warm.

A bag that keeps me really warm!!! Although I rarely camp in truly cold weather, I found that I got quite chilly during the night in Denali, and the Tetons in my old 30 degree bag. ( temps were a bit below 30)( even with a silk liner, and long underwear, and a hat). NO MORE!!!! This bag is amazing. This bag may be a bit heavier, but I sleep great with no cold spots or drafts. Worth the weight! The construction is wonderful. No drafts in this bag! Plenty of room to turn over without getting tangled too.
how waterproof or watertight is this bag? i am going on a month-long
how waterproof or watertight is this bag? i am going on a month-long kayak trip in february and would hate to be SOL with a wet bag! everyone else i know is taking a synthetic bag but i love the coziness of this one and would prefer to take it than get a new synthetic one.

The fabric on this bag is waterproof. The construction of the bag is NOT... meaning it is not taped or sealed. So, it will provide a little weather protection if caught out but it will not provide weather proof-ness. You might be okay taking it on your trip but you might be better off with a synthetic bag. I imagine all of your stuff will be in a dry bag? Or bags? If you need to get a synthetic bag... check out the Ultralamia 15 from Mountain Hardwear. Hope this helps!

They will zip together as the zippers are the same size... but you will have a hood on the bottom and a hood on top. If that is okay... then no problem.The hoods would be switched only if you are doing right and right or left and left. If you get a right and left they will line right up. Also you can use different sleeping bags that share the same zipper. My Marmot bags line up with my MH bags. Different MH bags will line up as well. I used a Lyell with a Piute and they worked great together.They will zip together as long as the zippers are compatible, e.g. tooth size & mfg.

Awesome construction. I m 5'10" 170 lbs with wide shoulder. The shoulder width is perfect, and the neck cuff stops the heat leaving the bag. Came with stuff sack, and storage sack! Used it a few times in snow conditions, the outer fabric resist water very well.

I'm generally a hot sleeper. Even so, with a recent trip to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, I wasn't going to take any risks. This bag kept me roasting while everyone else woke up every morning griping about the night's cold. It never dropped much below 30 F, so I can't comment on its sub-zero performance, but will have to try it out this winter. It is heavy, but we had porters. I think I'd keep this for winter truck camping and maybe get an ultralight for backpacking. Overall great design and good value. I would like outside loops for tying to the thermarest so you don't slide around so much. My friend's REI Kilo bag had those, neat idea.

am going to use it for some winter camping. Sofar my synthetic bag is warmer but some one told me down has a heat moderating property?! As I have yet to disprove this I am still deciding. It is a nice fit, and when I have used it I have been just right (not to hot or cold), but I have yet to use it in really cold conditions
