With highly efficient wicking, the Mountain Hardwear Men's Lightweight Power Stretch Boxer spares you the swampy feeling of perspiring in your ski pants. Lightweight Polartec Power Stretch fabric stretches four ways and features a ribbed interior to draw moisture away and a smooth exterior to slide easily under other layers. Wear this boxer during any intensive cool-weather pursuit to avoid steaming up.
Bottom Line: Start with your performance underwear, then fiddle with outer layers.
It's a lightweight powerstretch, so not really that warm by itself if you're not moving. The waistband is super comfortable, not really tight like a lot of nike and underarmour items, which is a huge plus if you're wearing them for a long period. My only problem is the flap doesn't close very well when you're wearing them, so you have to swim with a risk of nudity...
Originally I bought the Patagonia Men's Active Boxers, but ended up returning them. They rode up and were not as comfortable as the MH Lightwear Power Stretch Boxer. Normally I wouldn't write a review about Boxers but these deserve it. Power Stretch material is great, it's close fitting, warm, and doesn't chafe. Another thing I like about this Boxer is that it has elastic cuffs around the leggings. The Patagonia boxer just hangs free which, leads it to riding up and not being ideal for active activities. I use these boxers for hiking and climbing. But I'm actually going to buy a few more in case they stop making them.
I wanted to like these boxers, I really did. The material is very soft and stretchy and warm. But, due to the cut, and the design of the fly, things tend to pop out. I read wgtech's review and thought that maybe his problem was due to the fact that he has a 34" waist and bought a small. Well, I have a 33" waist and I got a medium, but I had the same problem. In other ways, these fit fine, but as soon as I my pace moves beyond a leisurely walk, the fly hole opens right up and things start needing constant adjusting. I cannot recommend these at all.

I have a 32" waist slim build and have the medium. My meat & potatoes have never broke free as some of the other reviews say. These fit me good not to tight and not loose either. The only reason not for giving them five stars is the crotch length is to long. I like my briefs to sit just above my hips not my waist, so to me it feels like im saggin my briefs wich is bad. I have a happy median for them now and life is good.
These are great for Alaska hunting. I bought size L and they fit and wear great. Stretch to activity. Dries quick. Warm. I am slender: 6'3" and 195 pounds. Unlike others, my jung didn't fly out, and I am not small and I am very activate: hockey, hunting, football, and hiking.
Yes, I found the same problem with things falling out the slot. I just had my girlfriend sew up the slots. Another case where the designers don't seem to know squat. How many guys actually use " the slot" anyway ? I don't know, but other than that, I like the underwear and will purchase them again. I own and like the smartwool product also, and sewed up that slot too. I feel the the medium could be sized a little smaller. For the price you think they would have 5 or 6 different size classes.
I bought the small based on other reviews and they fit my 34" waist perfectly. The only complaint that I have is that there's no room in the crotch and the fly isn't cut very well. It tends to spread open while running and the boys fly free...
Bought this boxer in size M. Thinks its a little big too be M other ways it is a great lightweight boxer to casually wear or light(not cold)mountaneering trips.
These boxers came skiing with me as a base layer beneath my long johns. There is just something to be said for boxers that do something, like give you a snug, supportive, warm and wicking base layer before you break into serious activity. I wore them exclusively during a colorado big mountain adventure and was absolutely satisfied with the performance all around. I would recommend these as an actual base layer for all around support and comfort (cotton would just fail.....)
I was a little leery about buying these boxers, but they turned out to be great. They elasticity is awesome and they help keep you warm. They do ride up a little bit, but most stretchy materials do.
I gave these to my husband for Xmas. Having read the reviews, I went ahead and sewed up the fly to prevent any parts from popping out, as it was obvious that could happen. Who really uses those fly openings anyway? These are a great pair of wicking/warm boxers and backcountry.com always has good service, wicked fast shipping and great prices.
