Description

Mountain Hardwear's warmest synthetic sleeping bag, designed for deep-winter camping.

Mountain Hardwear cranked the furnace when they created the expedition-worthy Lamina -30 Sleeping Bag. High-loft synthetic insulation provides massive warmth that fights off the bitter cold of deep winter nights, and an external DWR coating helps the shell material resist moisture that's inevitable when you're camping in the snow. Climb inside this sleeping bag and you'll immediately notice that you have more room to move around because Mountain Hardwear's designers shaped this bag with the additional width you need to sleep with extra layers on—now that's thinking.

  • Wider, 'winter' mummy shape allows you to move comfortably at the shoulders and tapers towards the footbox to maximize heat retention throughout
  • External DWR coating allows the shell material to repel light moisture and precipitation so your sleeping bag stays dry inside and out
  • Nylon shell is durable and highly packable and it features a water-repellent DWR coating for moisture and light precipitation
  • Polyester lining feels soft and wickes moisture away from your skin so you feel comfortable while you sleep
  • Lamina welded baffle construction eliminates baffle seams and instead uses shell fabric welded directly to the insulation to keep it in place and reduce weight
  • Thermic Micro synthetic insulation is soft, lofty, lightweight, and easily compressed
  • Full-length side zipper has two sliders so you can get just the right amount of venting at the foot or head
  • Footbox is shaped for natural foot position that allows for maximum warmth and comfort
  • Face gasket and tailored hood comfortably block drafts so you retain more heat inside this sleeping bag
  • Internal zipper pocket is located at your shoulder so you can store an extra hat, socks, or a headlamp

Toast.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have the 2012 version of this bag.

Now that thats out of the way, I must say that in -15F weather, with a thin fleece liner, this bag was toasty.

I was sleeping in a 3 sided shelter, not a tent, so there was no microclimate as there normally is in a tent with another person. I was wearing under armor long sleeve turtle neck top and under armor bottoms. Also had a beanie on.

Im not sure if I would have slept as warm and comfy without the fleece liner, but with the fleece liner in, id imagine I could go down to -20F no problem.

The bag is huge and heavy. Warm, Light, Synthetic. Pick 2.

The draft collar is excellent and the zipper draft tube is also of high quality. The face closure I had to get used to but once I got it right I had a good nights sleep.

Check out the rest of my profile for a picture of this bag in its included compression sack.
