Don't let a little water put the damper on your down.

Thanks to its 650-fill down insulation, the Mountain Hardwear Men's Kelvinator Hooded Down Jacket keeps you warm and comfortable from your hips to the top of your head in the nastiest weather that Old Man Winter can dish up. Marmot's Q.Shield down insulation maintains its loft and its insulating properties even when it's wet, so, unlike your buddy wearing regular down, you don't have to sweat those dark gray clouds too much. And the high-loft down is easy to compress so you can easily stash it in a stuff sack and throw it in your pack when you head out to the backcountry. The Kelvinator jacket's 20D ripstop nylon fabric keeps the weight down without being tissue-paper delicate, and an insulated, adjustable hood, dual hem drawcords, and elasticized cuffs lock in heat where it's likely to escape.

    Fits great

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

I bought this on sale in the spring so I can't comment on use in cold weather. The fit is great, I'm 6 feet, 150 lbs and the sleeves are nice and long and the hem goes to the bottom of my butt. According to the manufacturer there are 9.7 ounces of 650 FP down and I measure a double layer loft of between 2 1/2 and 3 inches so it seems like it will be warm. The total jacket weight on my scale is just over 18 ounces. The fabric seems downproof and strong enough. There are minimal features which is fine with me: 2 zip handwarmer pockets, a drawcord at the hem with toggles on each side and that's it. No internal pockets, no adjustments to the hood. There is elastic around the face of the hood and it fits me well without a helmet.

Super Warm an extremely light jacket . Zippers are of good quality an work good. Wear this everyday because I live in northern Michigan. I walk an cycle all the time. Also does a good job of repelling light rain but is not waterproof.

    Great Warm Jacket

Love this jacket, it is lightweight and fits my shoulders well. In terms of 'puffiness' this jacket is in the middle, great for temps between 20-40 degrees F. I really like the elastic cuff's as opposed to other jackets velcro adjustments.
