Great light down

I was looking for a light down good for mid 30s to low 20s and this is the jacket. I have a Millet Expert Down for the really cold days...this is a good option for a little less puff. The hood is great as well as the shell that sheds light snow. It's good for windy conditions as well. FYI - size up.

I'm 5'5, 125lbs with broad shoulders and long arms...the medium was perfect

    Awesome Down jacket

    • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I first purchased the 2012 kelvinator jacket, did love it, but then i found the Phantom for a ridiculous price (180$). Honestly, both jacket are very nice, but if you can afford the phantom or find it on sale, dont hesistate to get it ! Its very lightweight, warm and compressible. Its alot more warm than the Ghost whisperer too as it have alot more fill weight. If your looking for an awesome down jacket at a reasonable price, get the phantom jacket.

MH Hooded Phantom Down is wicked awesome

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

I recently picked up one of these bad boys and does exactly what I need. I sized up so I can throw it on over my jacket while switching out the skins and getting ready for the down hills. Even with the extra room inside it's still the warmest 1lb down I have ever worn thanks to the weight mostly coming from mountain hardware's 850 down, the shell is extremely light weight and the unnecessary bells and whistles are absent on this no nonsense mountaineer approved down. If you thinking about getting one DO IT! I'm 6' and about 180 and the large is roomy enough to throw on over a jacket but a medium would fit better over just a base layer.

    how does compare to the

    MontBell Alpine Light Down Parka?

    Best Answer

vsop. The Hooded Phantom comes in at 481grams or 16.9oz. The Alpine Light comes in at 15.7oz or 445grams. I would bet that this weight difference is due to the fact that the Hooded Phantom jacket has MORE 850-fill down packed in to it than the Alpine Light therefore the Hooded Phantom would probably be warmer. Also, the Alpine Light only utilizes 800-fill down and not 850-fill. These are the main differences that I can see... hope this info helps!
