Lighter than air, and way warmer too.

Down's amazing—until it gets wet. Mountain Hardwear's remedied this drawback infusing its down with Q. Shield, a permanently water-repellent treatment that'll keep your insulation lofty and warm even if you get a little bit soggy. That means the Nitrous' 800-fill down will stay cozy no matter what, while its insulated low-profile hood and dual hem drawcords seal in your heat and prevent drafts from creeping in. The whole package packs down into its own pocket, too, so it's easy to carry in your pack on the rare occasions you're not wearing it.

  • 20D nylon ripstop
  • 800-fill Q. Shield water-repellent down
  • Zippered hand and chest pockets
  • Insulated low-profile hood
  • Dual hem drawcords
  • Stows in own pocket

Definitely a jacket, not a sweater

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

Yeah it fits slightly big... think Patagonia regular fit. I'm 6' 175lbs w/ a pretty square torso. Normally I really like an athletic fit but i find it sometimes difficult to layer a variety of garments.

The jacket is very light and relatively tough (compared to the Ghost Whisper). Like i said it fits relatively big but its very comfortable and doesn't look very big. Still fits well under a shell. I bet you can size down and be safe if you're concerned w/ size. The shoulders are mildly loose, torso length is fantastic and arm length is a bit long. My jacket is a medium too.

So far I've layered a Compressor jacket (no hood), OR Acetylene and a Patagonia nano puff. All feel great as a 2nd insulator for super cold days. Mobility in the jacket is solid. The extra room helps a lot. I don't reach out of my sleeves and when my arms are up the bottom of my torso is still covered.

Blocks wind fairly well and beads water too. Got it wet already and it stayed warm... not as warm as Primaloft but still good. Jacket dried out very quick.

Hood is fantastic. I have a big head and often times when I have the jacket zipped all the way up i have difficulty putting the hood on. I have no issue with this one.

Colors nice, does not look like a trash bag.

Worth the retail price... yeah sure but if you can find it for a deal then it's definitely a good buy.
