Lighter than air, and way warmer too.

Down's amazing—until it gets wet. Mountain Hardwear's remedied this drawback infusing its down with Q. Shield, a permanently water-repellent treatment that'll keep your insulation lofty and warm even if you get a little bit soggy. That means the Nitrous' 800-fill down will stay cozy no matter what, while its insulated low-profile hood and dual hem drawcords seal in your heat and prevent drafts from creeping in. The whole package packs down into its own pocket, too, so it's easy to carry in your pack on the rare occasions you're not wearing it.

    Sizing a bit off

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: Runs large

Bought as a gift, and it was a bit big for them, so ended up returning it and going with a different product for them. They did say it seemed warm and comfortable, but the sizing was just off.. I'm sure if you figure out the correct size for yourself, it would be an awesome jacket!

    Excellent Lightweight Down Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

This jacket is extremely warm, and lightweight. I have used it on several backpacking trips with lows in the 30's, and was warm and snug with just this jacket and a tee shirt on. The reviewers that commented on this running large must like form fitting tight gear because I found the fit perfect. I am 5'8", 160 lbs and have a size medium jacket.

    runs beyond insanely large

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: large

i would probably like this jacket if it had more of an athletic fit and didn't fun insanely large. i have several other MH jackets (soft shells, a heavy down jacket, rain shells, etc) and large has always fit me very well. this jacket fits like it was made for an overweight rapper. it doesn't look anything like the photos at all. i wish i would have returned it. i thought i could get used to it, but unfortunately that isn't the case.

Great jacket if you size it correctly

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Small

I did research and found this jacket has a weird sizing; most people mentioned being too large thus I chose Small and it fits well over baselayer and a lightweight fleece or insulating jacket.

The jacket is warm. Used it during my Japan trip. The temperature was around 10-15c with some wind chill. I am warm wearing it with a thin t-shirt (walking around). Feel that it will be comfortable down to 7-8c, though i would wear a proper baselayer if it goes below that. The draw cord helps to retain body heat. Another plus is the hydrophobic down of the jacket and able to stuff into its own pocket.

I wish it comes with adjustable hood as I feel the hood is abit big for my head.

    Overall good down jacket
+Lightweight and warm for its weight
    +Hydrophobic down
    +Stuff into one of pockets
+Good value if on discount (bought it for 169)

    Negative:
    -Non adjustable hood
    -Weird sizing

    nice, and very light weight

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: large

This jacket is a nice piece but it could be a little more form fitted. It has some space, or maybe it may run large. I am 6 1 190lbs. and I purchased a large. It fits nice because of my arm length, and shoulder width. It doesn't have the "Patagonia" fit but it is Mountain Hardwear, which means quality. The hood and body could be a little more form fitting, that's the only reason it didn't get a 5 star rating. The jacket is very warm and if it gets too cold throw a fleece under it and your perfect.

    nice, and very light weight

    Terrible sizing

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: large

I am 6'3" tall and 190 lbs with an athletic build. Only order this large if you are a heavy set taller guy. Could not believe how baggy it was in the chest and arms. I was swimming in this jacket. The hood was absurdly large. If a gust of wind came it would most definitely blow off your head. The hood seems like it was build to go over a snowboarding helmet. I bought this because it had a few features that the ghost whisperer did not i.e. (chest pocket and heavier duty nylon) I returned it immediately and will opt for the Ghost whisperer to get that athletic cut.

    awesome jacket fits perfect

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: large

so everyone is giving a bad review due to sizing lol wow you all must wear some skin tight stuff haha because this jacket fits perfect true size and works awesome with extreme cold weather when raining through on the mountain hardware ghost whisper shell which is paper thin and blocks wind and rain, but this jacket is great i have 3 in 3 different colors and i got more for my mom a few years back and a MH ghost whisper down jacket and she has only worn the ghost whisper 1 time throughout the past 3 winters and wears this nitrous jacket everyday to the point she has worn shinny spots in the collars so i highly recommend this jacket its a great piece and fits GREAT AND TRUE TO SIZE!!!!

    Other Reviews Right

    • Size Bought: Medium

Are you thinking about buying this jacket because you saw good reviews on other websites. Well, read this first. While the pros of this jacket that other people listed could be true, the reason I'm giving this two stars is because the sizing is completely off. Don't make the same mistake I did and ignore the reviews here in favor of the more positive ones on Amazon and Moosejaw. At least heed the advice and go a size down if you're considering purchasing. I'm returning it for that reason and because the jacket doesn't seem hefty enough for the winters. It may be, but it certainly doesn't look it.

    Sizing

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: XL

I have the utmost respect for the quality and attention to detail of Mountain Hardware. I'm an odd sized dude, 5 11 220 [extra weight due to recent achilles surgery]. I ordered an XL in the Ghost Whisperer and it was huge so I ordered an L in the Nitrous. It's bigger than the GW. I also ordered an Arxcteryx Cerium Hoody so we'll see how that one does. The MH sizing philosophy seems pretty, errrr, "dynamic."

    great looking lightweight warm coat

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large

The coat was really big. Medium fits like a large. I didn't get to use it yet because as soon as I put the thing on I called these guys up at backcountry and made an exchange for a small.

    Lightweight, Oversized Trash Bag

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: XXL

This jacket is the epitome of terrible. Ever since Columbia bought Mt Hardwear, there products have been less than exemplary and this jacket prove it. The jacket doesn't have an adjustable hood and the outer fabric is doesn't seem tough for how thick it is. But, the biggest problem that I had with this jacket is the overall fit of the jacket. Now, I am a big person but this jacket was so big that I could probably fit a small toddler in there with me. The only upside to this jacket was the warmth because the moment I put it on, I started to feel the warmth. However, I really cannot recommend this jacket to anyone because the fit is outrageously huge.

Definitely a jacket, not a sweater

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large

Yeah it fits slightly big... think Patagonia regular fit. I'm 6' 175lbs w/ a pretty square torso. Normally I really like an athletic fit but i find it sometimes difficult to layer a variety of garments.

The jacket is very light and relatively tough (compared to the Ghost Whisper). Like i said it fits relatively big but its very comfortable and doesn't look very big. Still fits well under a shell. I bet you can size down and be safe if you're concerned w/ size. The shoulders are mildly loose, torso length is fantastic and arm length is a bit long. My jacket is a medium too.

So far I've layered a Compressor jacket (no hood), OR Acetylene and a Patagonia nano puff. All feel great as a 2nd insulator for super cold days. Mobility in the jacket is solid. The extra room helps a lot. I don't reach out of my sleeves and when my arms are up the bottom of my torso is still covered.

Blocks wind fairly well and beads water too. Got it wet already and it stayed warm... not as warm as Primaloft but still good. Jacket dried out very quick.

Hood is fantastic. I have a big head and often times when I have the jacket zipped all the way up i have difficulty putting the hood on. I have no issue with this one.

Colors nice, does not look like a trash bag.

Worth the retail price... yeah sure but if you can find it for a deal then it's definitely a good buy.
