Why We Like The Hardwear AP Pant

The Mountain Hardwear Men's Hardwear AP Pant tackles our bike commutes through the city, afternoon bouldering sessions, impromptu post-work nachos with our coworkers, and everything in between. Reflective strips under the cuff increase visibility on twilight bike rides home from the brewery, crag, or office, and we love the roll-up snap closure on the hem that keeps our pants from getting caught in the crankset.

My husband loves these

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
32x32
Height:
5' 8"
Weight:
190

Got a second pair in a different color for my husband. Makes his but look good, I think because they are a little tighter around his bum. The snaps that keep the pants rolled up are a great touch.

Versatile

Comfortable, functional, durable. Work, hike, or play, they work! I ended up buying them in each color. I normally wear a 36w but had to buy these in 38w.

Gym rats be aware.

I'm so glad I didn't order these online, I opted to try on my normal size at a local retailer and they were crazy tight, like early 2000s skinny jeans. I then tried on 2 sizes up from my regular waist size and they fit nicely with a belt. If you work out and have thighs and glutes that are semi-built order a size or two up in the waist for mobility. As far as quality goes, I like the thickness and rigidity of the material, definitely a nice resistant fabric.

Major shrinkage after washing, quality control issues

Order at least one size longer for length. Pants shrunk 2 inches after first washing and no longer wearable. My previous AP pants from last year did not shrink like this, and fit completely different.

Alternative to Traverse Lite

I love my Traverse Lite pants (no longer available) and wanted to get something similar. Also wanted belt loops so I can use a belt to which I attach a holster for phone/camera.The Chockstone Trail pant is close but is heavier. A strange negative (for me) is that the right side belt loop is about 4 cms further from the centre and pushes the phone/camera holster onto my hip vs being comfortably in front of me. I would have thought that belt loops within the same brand would be approximately the same.

Inflexible, uncomfortable

Extremely displeased with this pant. They look nice, but that's about it. I couldn't imagine climbing or hiking in these.

NOT JUST FOR MEN!

Seems that all the retailers put women in 100% synthetic pants. If you prefer a cotton blend for hiking, give these a try. The "knife pocket" works for a phone. Slight shrinkage so beware of a perfect fit before washing!

Nice pant!

Solid construction, great fit and features. Good around town, on the trail, or on the couch. I like keeping my pocket knife discreet in the knife pocket. Will definitely buy again and now interested to try other MH pant offerings.

Perfect pants

Great fit and sizing is right on. Durable fabric. Not baggy either. Very happy with this style.

Great pants for casual weekends or trail.

AP Pants - Really great quality, fabric and cut but mine ran long. I am 6-1, 195 with 35” waist and the 36/34 size was way too long. I’ll exchange them; they’re worth the money and seem very functional, very well made.
