Head into the backcountry in the Mountain Hardwear Men's GTX 2.5 Pant, made with durable FTX nylon and coated with the best waterproof breathable laminate around—the best not only because it repels water like only Gore-Tex can, but it also maintains a high degree of breathability and is super lightweight. New this season, these pants work great for alpine climbing and as a rain layer for superlight backpacking. Articulated knees, a rear waist stretch panel, and gusseted crotch enable you to speed through the forest or move like Spider Man up a rock face. Powder cuffs keep snow off your ankles. An excellent mountaineering/ski pant

I took the pants snow-skiing for the first time and they held up perfectly, they kept me both warm and dry. They were also very easy to get in and out of b/c of the full-length zippers. I'd say the they are an absolutely excellent pair of pants and for skiing/mountaineering, I can see no better. Granted they are a little expensive but after this weekend, they were worth the extra money. Overall, an excellent pair of pants.

Just go the GTX 2.5 for Christmas and so far I really like them. Very light, manuverable pant. My only real complain is the front mounted thigh pocket. It's pleated to allow for expansion but the pocket is right on the front of the tight and the pleats catch and trap a fair bit of snow. Have no idea why they couldn't move the pocket to the side.
