Any lighter and it might just float away.

Ok, there's no way the Mountain Hardwear Women's Ghost Whisperer Down Vest is lighter than air, but weighing a mere five ounces, it is the world's lightest fully featured down vest. Stash it in your pack without it taking up much room, or throw it on while hiking, skiing, or climbing for toasty warmth, thanks to its 800-fill Q.Shield Down insulation.

Knowing that down doesn't insulate worth a darn when it's soaked with moisture, the ingenious folks at Mountain Hardwear developed Q.Shield Down. This water-resistant down maintains its heat-trapping loft once moisture seeps in, making it a great insulator through wet, nasty weather. In addition, down's highly compressible nature makes this vest easily stashable. Simply fold it within its pocket stuff sack for effortless storage without it taking up much room in your pack.

    Initial impressions

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

    My girlfriend says:

The ghost whisperer vest is nice as a stand alone piece or as part of the layering system. It's ultra-light and packs down well. The sizing is slightly slimmer than the Ghost Whisperer Jacket which helps when layering another shell over the vest.

The only downside about this vest is the pull-tight hem. Pulling it tight is no issue, but releasing it is very odd. It's almost like it was sewn wrong with the plastic release piece sewn inside the fabric.

First time I've ever loved a vest!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Bought this and the matching lightweight hoodie (in the dark plum -- gorgeous). Now I get why people like vests -- as long as you have something underneath with decently warm arms, you're warm and free as a bird! I did find I needed to tighten the drawstring at the waist for maximum warmth/no draft, but once I did this, I loved it. And LIGHT!

    Crazy light

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

My wife LOVES this vest. It is extremely light and packable. She has been wearing it constantly this fall, either by itself or to add additional warmth to other jackets.

I would call this vest slim fit, but not insanely so. My wife is 5'7", and the small is the right length. If you had a very long torso, it might be too short.

She also tried the Patagonia down vest, but found the cut was too boxy, so she went with this one.
