Description

It might just be the next greatest thing to ever happen to you.

A bold statement, we know, but when you zip on the Mountain Hardwear Men's Ghost Whisperer Down Jacket, the ridiculous warmth and lightness of the Ghost Whisperer might be the next greatest thing to happen to you. The 800-fill Q.shield down brings massive warmth without weight, and the down resists moisture so it won't stop insulating if it happens to get a little soggy. Its lightweight Whisperer ripstop nylon pairs up with the down to make this puffy weigh in at a mere 7oz so you'll be able to throw it in your pack when you're climbing or harvesting some backcountry turns without it taking up too much space or acting like a lead balloon in your pack.

  • Whisperer nylon ripstop
  • 800-fill Q.shield down
  • Interior toggle hem
  • 2 zippered hand pockets
  • Stowable design

Bought for husband and he loved it

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

He wears it all the time right now. I like the way he looks in it and he wears it everywhere right now. Fit was great and he has used it skiing, around town, and on some hikes and it's held up great with lots of wear. Thanks

Light, nice fit, but the cuffs?

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

Love the jacket, love the weight, but the cuffs are horrible. I fully realize, they are trying to build a light jacket, and thus a minimal cuff, but the key to a down jacket is trapping warm air in.

I am 5'8" 165lbs, and got a medium. Fits awesome, but there is a 1 inch gap from the edge of my wrist to the cuff? I measured the diameter to be 4 inches, and am guessing that nobody's wrist is that large. I called backcountry, and they measured one in the warehouse there at 5 inches cuff diameter!

I have 3 shells, 4 down jackets, some fleeces and never have I seen a cuff that if so large. How does anyone trap warm air in their arms if it leaks right out?

I am still trying to figure out what to do regarding return, as I got a good price. My lovely wife thinks she can snake some more elastic in there.

Love the jacket, but wow, how could they mess up the cuffs that badly

Wasn't impressed

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large

Although this jacket seems well made and is ultralight, I returned it for two reasons:
- it didn't seem very warm. I wore it inside for a while, walked around the house, and didn't feel nearly as warm as I would expect. I believe it is because the amount of down is very small and not sufficient for a true insulating layer for wintertime. I realize that it is ultralight and made for expeditions, but even so, it should be a bit warmer.

- the medium size was enormous (I think even the small would be big). I normally am a Medium size

176cm, 68kg, which size should I choose, S or M?

I want to wear one baselayer and one sweater inside and one hard shell outside.

Thanks!
