Here's what others have to say...

Does the hood have a drawstring, or what mechanism does it use to stay on your head during even light winds?

Hey there,

There is no mechanism to tighten the hood. The design/shape of the hood is what keeps it on your head. Mountain Hardwear went for the lightest jacket on the market - weighing in at a mind-bending 2 oz., this jacket is so unique that only one mill in the world is capable of making its special fabric.

Light as a feather

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

My cousin got a similar jacket so I had to try this out. After putting it on your can feel the difference right away and in the wind it makes a huge difference. Cannot believe how light and compact this thing is. Was a little worried about durability but so far it seems pretty solid. Price is a little steep but when you are paying to shave grams off your gear it seems pretty reasonable. Tested it in a downpour and it works better than some of my older goretex jackets. Essential item for any lightweight enthusiast.

Absolute must have piece of gear

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Out of all of the back up emergency tools and gear I have stashed away, this piece gets used the most. Put this jacket on and right away you feel the difference. I mostly use it mountain biking so I dont get chilled on the descent. I haven't really had a need for the hood and it can get annoying flapping around in the wind. I'd also be stoked if MH made it in black.

Small and perfect!

I love to have a easy stow shell for when it starts raining cats and dogs. This is one item I would not like to get caught without. It doesn't provide much warmth, but it keeps my layers plenty dry so that they can continue to keep me warm. I have put this coat to the test in the snow, rain, and it always keeps my base layer bone dry. This is an awesome jacket for trail running in wet conditions, since I run fairly hot I need a breathable shell and this does the trick. I will use this jacket for my day hikes, trail running, and backpacking trips.

How does this hold up to rain? For comparison,...

How does this hold up to rain? For comparison, how would it match up to the Marmot Super Mica Jacket? At 2 oz it is about 8 oz less than the Super Mica, but is it is it comparable in the rain?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the Super Mica will be much more water resistant then this guy, and for longer.

I have both the Marmot Super Mica and the Ghost Whisper. The Super mica is much much better in the rain. The Ghost Whisper is a wind jacket. It does have DWR coating. It can handle a few drops, but much more than that and you will start to get wet. On the plus side it does dry out really fast. If you plan on seeing any significant rain I would recommend the Super Mica.

Initial impression = impressive!

  • Fit: True to size

Just received it - I'll be using this for running, but I haven't tested it out yet. The white is actually white as opposed to appearing space-blanket silver in the stock photo, although it's so thin it's almost transparent: I can see my nips through it! Seems to fit pretty good, although I question how well the hood will stand up to wind - it seems kind of big even for my huge dready head. Anyways, I'm only giving it 4 stars because I'm unsure how it performs; I'll make a valiant attempt to update this review after I get some use out of it. Happy trails everyone!

White Men's Small packed into pocket next to normal sized Bic lighter for comparison :)

Does the stuff pocket have a haul loop on it? For example, is it possible to clip a carabiner into the pocket if you want to carry the jacket on a climbing harness?

the version I have does *not* have a haul loop, but it is very tiny, and could easily be thrown into the bottom of a bag or even in a cargo pocket and all but forgotten about.

To rosp1008708: Just FYI, the Patagonia Houdini jacket is similar in size/style and does have a haul loop on it. I've had the jacket for a few months now and I love it; I carry it pretty much everywhere on my backpack just in case. I haven't tried it out in the rain yet, so I can't comment on it's water resistance, but I don't think this would be the best pick if you're looking for a rain/storm proof type jacket. Just my .02$

Does this run true to size? Trying to decide between small and medium...

I'd say it is pretty true for an athletic piece. I am 5'10 165lb and wear a medium which is a pretty nice fit in this piece. For comparison I also wear a medium in the Patagonia Houdini which is a comparable piece.

wicked light

I took this with me on my last backpacking trip. It makes an awesome wind jacket over the Stoic down cardigan while sitting in camp. I have not spent any time in the rain with it so I can not comment on how water proof it is. I have also not used it while moving on the trail so I can not speak to breathability At 2 oz it is perfect for what I purchased it for.

What size did you get to fit over your stoic down cardigan? I have a Stoic down pull-over and would like to size this to fit over that as well... XL?
