When storm clouds threaten you’re day in the backcountry, the Mountain Hardwear Women’s Epic Jacket is there to keep you dry until the tempest passes. This lightweight rain shell features a waterproof breathable Conduit laminate to seal out moisture and an adjustable, roll-away hood to keep your dome dry. Watertight underarm zips let you dump heat on warm days, and an arm pocket holds your lip balm, energy bar, or other small essentials.
Bottom Line: Epic protection for epic weather conditions.
My wife and I both have this jacket and we really like it. Very lightweight (less than a pound) and does an excellent job of shedding the rain. Packs down small and has pit-zips to keep you from overheating on summer days.
The jacket breathes well and has been durable. Nice looking jacket too.
Any suggestions on a good rain jacket that does not make so much noise? I just got this jacket, good fit, nice color but egads is it loud, I'll be sending it back. Any sugestions?
opencountry. A waterproof/breathable softshell is what you are looking for. The woven face fabrics are much quieter overall. The problem is that they weigh and cost a lot more than a basic rain shell like the Epic Jacket. One other thought would be the Obsidian Jacket from Mountain Hardwear. It is slightly heavier, a bit more expensive, but the soft lamination process we use to attach the laminate to the shell (to make it waterproof) makes for a much quieter shell overall. I hope this info helps!

This is a great rain jacket. It is women's specific and has a tailored fit unlike other rain jackets I've had in the past. The bill in bigger than my friends The North Face rain jacket which is much better coverage for my face in the heavy rain. I have been in several down pours and the water just beads off. Would definitely recommend to a friend!
Jamie, this is basically a rain shell and has no insulation at all. You could wear this with layers but not as a stand alone jacket in cold temperatures.
i just bought it for the winter season and i am absolutely in love with it! it works really well over my monkey woman fleece. Both of them together really keep me warm and shield me from the elements. Not only does it look really sharp....it also allows for excellent ventilation when its not too cold and windy through its convenient underarm zippers. i love this jacket and you would be silly to not get one yourself!!
How waterproof is this jacket? Will it withstand the pouring rain, or will it soak through in the first hour? I am moving to New York for college and I don't own a jacket that is actually waterproof. If you have any other suggestions, I'm open, as long as it isn't too expensive.
I'm 5'5 125lbs and the medium is too big and the small fits better. In the small the pit zips are way too tight on my underarms. I don't consider myself having a short torso but this jacket shows substantial mid drift when lifting my arms. Arm length is longer than most (a good thing for me). The bill hood actually covers my face when my hair is up (which can't be said for the Marmot Strato). The Strato wins is terms of material flexible-ness. This jacket FEELs like a rain jacket whereas some newer jackets avoid this feel. The style is a bit boxy but for me this is fine. Overall it's positives outweighed the negatives and i got a good price. Oh and avoid the Grasshopper color! Hurts my eyes!
How bright is the "grasshopper" green for the Epic jacket? It looks awfully bright in the picture. I'd rather get a darker, earthy color as I work in the outdoors, but I don't want it to pop out way too much.
Loud, very loud jacket when you so much as move, would not suggest for any woods walking. I am sending back and getting the Outdoor Research Reflexa jacket which has reviews that actually mention it being more quiet than most, sure hope so. It did fit well and the thunder red was a great color, to bad it did not work.
i'm 5'3'' 125 pounds of cycling madness. I got this jacket for a wicked deal, but I wasn't aware of how huge the sizes run! Usually in America the sizes always run TOO SMALL!!! Anyhow, I got a Women's size medium... it was too big ladies! I purchased the color green...which shouts out *HERE I AM*...horrid color....they should put a warning label about that color. Cycling down hills I wasn't worried about going too fast, because the jacket became a horrid neon-green parchute! If I wanted...it could become my little house as well.
Well, as for rain/wind...you better have some type of base layer underneath capable of wicking. otherwise you are better off with using a home-made garage bag pancho.
I have crashed with this jacket on (going about 20 mph), and the material is extremely durable. Overall-- --just invest your money, and buy a rainjacket that is capable of wicking as well. Invest in perhaps a gore-tex material.
My wife and I both have these jackets and I think they fit true to size. For a non Gore-Tex jacket I think it does a very good job of wicking moisture and the pit-zips are a nice feature if you need them.
I'm 5'7" and 125 lbs and ALWAYS wear a size small no matter what the brand. Don't know what this reviewer was thinking buying a medium. This jacket fits me perfectly in size small. It definitely runs true to size -- although having long arms, I sure wish the sleeves had a little more length...
I bought this to wear over my Monkey Woman jacket. I bought a Medium in both and they fit great together. The sleeves and overall length on this jacket are long- which I love. I would rather have a boxier fit if it means more comfort. I went with the Thunderbird Red color and am very pleased with it. Very lightweight and holds the rain out like it should.
Probably not the most technical shell out there, but great for the price! I am very happy with my choice.
this is a great waterproof shell, nothing to fancy just the basics to make this a great buy. pit zips for core cooling, waterproof and breaths well. also this is nice and light, great addition to bring along regardless of the adventure.
