You’re communicating through office IM chat on your laptop, so no one can hear the birds chirping and the warm breeze blowing over your picnic blanket. Earlier in the day you were suffocating in your cube, but then you packed your laptop, folders, sunglasses, water bottle, and music player in the Mountain Hardwear Enterprise Backpack and headed out into the sunshine. The air-mesh back panel on this pack helps keep your back sweat-free when you hoof-it back for a last-minute meeting.
Anyone know the exact dimensions of the laptop pocket? I have a big one -- (16.2 x 10.9 x 1.7) and I'm having trouble finding a bag with a dedicated laptop sleeve that'll take a computer that size.
I tried the Mountain Hardware pack for my Macbook Pro and the laptop sleeve wasn't deep enough to keep the laptop corners from pushing out the top of the pack. Ended up going with a Timbuk2 although otherwise I like the MH pack.
I am definitely a gear snob and the MH Enterprise is definitely my favorite backpack on the market. I've had it for 3 years now and renewed my passion for it when I decided to go back to school this year. I had forgotten how well this bag distributes the weight of heavy books, laptop, etc. Comfy straps, fits well to my back, big side pockets (can keep a 1L nalgene in each), great accessory pockets, even a fleece lined pocket for my sunglasses. Love this bag!

The web site for GoLite does not show a Jam 2 Pack only the Jam. Was this pack made specifically for backcountry. The online conversation I had with GoLite said the Jam is the most current model. Is the Jam 2 older not the latest edition.
Good observation... I am a big GoLite fan, and it looks like they went from the Jam to the Jam2 back to the Jam. It's almost impossible to find an original "Jam". I think they discontinued those in ~2006/7. Ditto what Matt said.
Matt. Not sure what you mean by 'older pack'... the only thing on this pack that has changed over the years is the colors. It is one of the most popular and versatile packs in our line. Enjoy!
I have a 13" laptop and I don't want a backpack with the laptop sleeve is too loose, I want my laptop to be a little snug in the bag. Would this backpack be too loose for my laptop? thanks
Yes. This sleeve is designed to accomodate a 15"laptop. I had a 12" Powerbook Mac and had good luck getting it snug using one sleeve around the computer... and then putting it in the pack sleeve. Didn't move much after that. Either way, your computer will be protected. Cheers.
I ordered three backpacks from Backcountry figuring I'd need to see which one works best for daily carry on my 1 mile trek to the office. I like this pack a lot but the MBPro 17 is too tall when placed into the laptop sleeve to fit well. The top of the pack had to be stretched around the corners of the computer. Ended up with the Timbuk2 pack instead.
Yes, it is water resistant like a nylon-based backpack would be. There are also flaps that go over the zippers that help to resist water leaks, too. I have had no problems with water getting in the bag after being in the rain for a short time.
It would be good enough to walk from the parking lot into work, but you may want to do a water-proofing treatment or a packcover if you are looking to bike 5 miles into work in the pouring rain.
I'm having to carry more than just my laptop and accessories around lately, so I thought I'd try using a laptop backpack. The pack seems well built and sturdy. Plenty of organizing pockets and slots. I'm an organization freak, and there's no way I could have used all of them. There is adequate padding and suspension for a 15.4" laptop, except there is no padding for the top. A strap holds the 'puter in place. Unlike some others I tried I didn't feel it against my back. Even with a heavy load, the bag fit nicely against my back (I'm 5'11"). The waist strap for being as narrow as it does a pretty good job transferring some of the load. Fully loaded the pack carries the weight well. The one problem is if I pack a battery adapter, noise-cancelling headset case, external hard drive, small ditty bag, several small electronics, and a paperback in the front pockets this stuff crowds into the main compartment. That in turn makes accessing the bottom of bag a two-handed operation: one hand to push the dividing panel out of the way and the other to dig. The capacity is there, but it takes some effort to use and access it. This was a deal-breaker. Well, not entirely: I realized I'm more of messenger bag type for commuting and business travel. Just my preference, and it is not reflected in my rating. So except for having to dig in the main compartment when there's a lot gear in the front pockets, this is a capacious, high-quality laptop pack.
I have the Dark Adobe color and I love it. I was looking for a laptop bag that would be able to handle the daily back and forth to work as well as being a good carry-on bag when I travel. This backpack exceeded my expectations! There are plenty of pockets and places to store things, and padded, strapped laptop pocket fit my 14.1 inch laptop easily.
I wish I would have had this backpack when I was in school, because it would have been perfect for hauling my stuff around campus. So, if you are looking for a laptop backpack for school, I would give this one some consideration.
Also, if needed, this would make a decent hiking daypack if one did not already have one for just that purpose. I would not recommend it solely for that purpose, but if one wanted to get a little dual-use out of the bag, I feel that it would be up to the task.
The Laptop pockets dimensions are 12 x 12 x 2". This pocket is open-ended and would be able to accommodate a computer slightly longer than this, but it does look like yours may be a little too big.
I use this pack for business travel and it hauls my books, laptop, ipod, noise cancellation head phones and all the peripherals. Bag is well built, computer pocket is suspended and easily holds my 13" laptop. Easy to keep everything organized. Only drawbacks, handle on the top could be a little larger, and the cell phone pocket on the strap is pretty small as well. I highly recommend this pack for business or school.
Everything seemed great about this backpack - the durability and all of the pockets. The tech specs say this has a 17" laptop pocket. However, the laptop sleeve barely fit my laptop that measures 15" wide. The edge of they pack had to be pulled tight around the corners of the laptop.
