Description

Three set-up options, one tent.

With its innovative DryPitch technology, the 4-person Mountain Hardwear Drifter 4 DP Tent provides the versatility for three different set-up options. On clear summer nights, the tent can be pitched without the fly for maximum ventilation, bug protection, and star gazing thanks to the mesh ceiling. In really rainy weather, you can quickly pitch the fly before the tent, which allows you and your gear to stay dry while setting up the tent under the protection of the dual vestibules. When low weight is your top priority, you can set up a minimalist shelter using just the poles, fly, and DryPitch footprint.
  • Polyester ripstop canopy has a DWR finish for enhanced wet weather protection
  • Mesh ceiling provides ventilation, bug protection, and star gazing on clear nights
  • Nylon taffeta floor has a fully taped perimeter and welded corners to keep wet conditions out
  • Polyester taffeta fly is fully taped with a 1500mm PU coating for guaranteed watertight protection
  • DAC Pressfit poles provide structural support while keeping weight to a minimum
  • Two vestibules and two doors provide easy entry and gear storage
  • Spacious interior sleeps up to four adults
  • DryPitch technology allows you to pitch the fly before the tent so you can set up the tent in the rain and stay dry
  • DryPitch system allows you to set up an ultra-light fast-pitch shelter with just the fly, poles, and included DryPitch footprint
  • Trail weight is just 6 pounds 14 ounces, fast-pitch weight is 4 pounds 14 ounces

Didn't like the details

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

There were several details of this tent that I did not like. The fly attaches to the tent at the end of the poles with a piece of bent plastic that clips over a bar. It is hard to get on and hard to get off. I frequently camp in the cold and this would be a pain. I also question whether it would get brittle and break and there would be no way to deal with it in the middle of a trip. The ploes are hinged together and the tent attaches to this plasic hinge (dry pitch feature). Other tents do this and it may be durable but I prefer to clip directly to the poles. The clips that attach the the tents to the poles are not as quality as other tents. There also is no strap/loop for the tent stakes to go into, only string loops.

Just what I needed

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The Drifter 4 DP is an excellent tent. Yes it is a bit heavy for the trail but I wanted a tent for the trail head instead. The Drifter is very comfortable for 2 to 3 people with tall ceiling and the two vestibules are awesome. Just like my smaller Mountain Hardwear tent, the rain flap comes down to the bottom of the tent to keep the rain and wind out. I have used it mostly it in Colorado but not enough to predict the durability but if it is like my other MH tent, it should last for a long time. The Drifter takes minutes to put up and tears down and rolls up easy. I definitely recommend the Drifter 4 tent. Chive On!
