Because complications just make things more complicated.
Often in the world of tents, lightweight and weatherproof are mutually exclusive concepts. You can have either but not both. Mountain Hardwear has found a way for you and a partner to have your cake and eat it, too, with the Drifter 2 DP Tent. At just over four-and-a-half pounds, you'll hardly notice the weight of the Drifter, especially if you split the load, and with its guaranteed watertight construction, you'll find the Drifter worth its weight in gold in the backcountry.
- Tough polyester canopy and fly construction (68D and 75D, respectively) for many seasons of tough use
- Tough, lightweight DAC Pressfit poles
- Dual doors and vestibules for easy entry and exit and plenty of room to dry out wet gear
- Plenty of floor space for healthy, full-grown adults
- Under 5 pounds of total weight for easy carrying
- Unique DryPitch feature allows you to set up the fly first so you can erect the tent under the protection of the fly
- Footprint included so you can set up a super light shelter with just the fly, footprint and poles
- Guaranteed watertight construction tested in Mountain Hardwear's Rain Room to 1200 inches in 24 hours

love. this. tent.
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
With double doors, a dry setup option in rainy weather, and the super simple and effective design, I am so happy we purchased this tent. It was sleeting and we stayed warm and dry; it was sunny and hot and the tent was nice and breezy. the setup is the fastest of any tent of this size I have used. great for a backpacking tent.

What would be a good compression sack for this tent? I want to pack the tent as small as possible and carry the poles separate. Thanks!

Great tent for 2 very close friends...
I picked up this tent a few years ago and have taken it out on a BWCA/Quetico backcountry trip with a friend. We used it without the fly on clear nights and loved to be able to see the stars through the bug mesh. Having 2 doors in this tent is key so you don't have to crawl over each other to get out of the tent and each person can sit in the tent to put shoes on - definitely a sanity-saving feature. Having 2 people in the tent was doable on this trip but not ideal (especially if one person tosses and turns!) - for longer trips with the chance of bad weather (and longer time spent inside the tent!) I would opt for a 3-person tent. The vestibules on both sides of the tent help the tent feel a little larger than it is since you can keep gear / boots outside the tent and still keep them dry - the fly comes down nice and low to the ground to keep the rain out. I really like the design of the doors - each door has a single continuous zipper that is at the perfect tension so that you can unzip it with one hand. The design is nice and clean so the zipper doesn't get caught on anything either. This may seem like a weird thing to be impressed by but I was using a friends brand new tent with triangular door and the zipper became annoying very fast. I also like the simplicity of the setup design - just two poles in an X that get inserted into grommets. The poles are fairly light and strong. The tent and fly are marked with reflective tabs that you can line up easily in the dark which is another nice touch. I also like the neutral colour in case I'm doing some stealth camping. The only criticism I have is the gear loft frequently falls down because it's not taught enough. As with all tents I would size up - if you plan on sharing this tent with someone for an extended period just go for the 3-person.
