Awesome, lots of compliments

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got this jacket for my wife, and she loves it. She's not one to go after the sporty-looking jackets, and so this one in black offered a little more classy look with all the necessary functions of a down jacket. The only problem is she wishes it was longer, however that's something we can change by getting a longer jacket. She get's compliments on it all the time!

Disappointing

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size

I own the downtown down coat and thought the shorter parka would also come in handy. It fits differently, however, and is far less flattering. The channels are bigger and there is less tapering in at the waist, so the effect is just big, puffy and unflattering. Too bad - i love the coat.

Great Purchase!

I LOVE this jacket! It fits my tall frame perfectly. Covers the butt nicely for a very flattering look with anything. It has a more stylish look in person than in the picture. Also very comfortable and warm. The fleece lining in the neck is cozy and gives it a plush look. Note: Mountain Hardwear runs a little big--the large size was perfect for my usual extra-large frame.

Warm & Soft - feathers clump

  • Gender: Female

I purchased this jacket last month and I am a little disappointed since the feathers are clumping in the sleeves. The spacing between feather pockets may be too large. I like the styling and how soft it is.

Had potential

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

i was looking for a down jacket that was a bit longer, but not too long. This had so much potential. It was warm without being too bulky, but I found it to be a bit shapeless.

What's the biggest difference between this coat and the Mountain Hardwear Downtown Down Coat ? I live in NYC and am looking for something to keep me warm here, as well as in far upstate NY conditions... Any advice as to which would be better for both locations?

Responded on

merp. The Downtown Coat has a back length of about 36"(for a size medium) and the Downtown Parka has a back length of about 32". Also, the Downtown Coat has a down-filled and fur trimmed hood both of which are removable. The parka obviously does not have these features. Due to these differences the coat is about $80 dollars more. I hope this info helps!

Warm, but not bulky

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Being that winter hasn't officially hit yet, I have only work this jacket 5 times or so, the coldest morning of which was 20 degrees. It was warm without being bulky, which is exactly what I was hoping for out of this jacket. I am 5'7" and wear a size 8 (US) bottom and a medium top. Usually jackets are too short in the sleeves for me or my broad shoulders bust through it like The Hulk. However, the medium in this jacket fit like a dream.

Mountain Hardwear Downtown Parka

This jacket is great! The only glitch is the zipper. It sometimes gets stuck at the bottom.
