Description

Seriously tough. Seriously light.

Sleeping in a cramped bivy or suffering through a storm in a bare-bones shelter just to save a little weight in your pack simply isn't worth it sometimes. The Mountain Hardwear Direkt 2 Tent was designed for serious high-altitude conditions, but weighs a jaw-dropping two and a half pounds (minimum weight) so you don't have to compromise protection when you're traveling light. This single-wall, internal-pole two-person tent is, in fact, the lightest tent Mountain Hardwear has ever made and is just the ticket for four-season fast-packing.
  • Lightweight, strong fabric features a non-stretch laminate that stabilizes and strengthens when pitched
  • Evolution Tension Arch offers storm-proof stability with fewer poles and internal setup with hook-and-loop tabs
  • Super-lightweight DAC NSL aluminum poles cut weight to a minimum
  • Fully taped fly, taped perimeter seam, welded corners, and welded guy-clip anchors for guaranteed watertight construction
  • Zippered mesh vent with integrated snow flap allows ventilation while keeping the weather out
  • Lightweight buckles and webbing reduce tent weight
  • Trim footprint fits on ledges and other small spaces
  • Reflective zipper pulls make it easier to find the zippers at night

I love this tent. It's super light, easy to set up in a blizzard and so easy to guy out with skis. Much faster to set up than the EV2, but not as much room. If you are in the cold, you can leave your pack outside as well as your boot shells so this tent works well. The only fault I could find is the vent. This tent does not have a strong enough support to hold the vent open in heavy snow conditions. It also needs another vent for when the wind is blowing. It is too easy to plug up the one vent with blowing snow. These are all minor issues that are less important than the light weight of the tent. The fabric is top quality and the internal pole clips are awesome.

Set up took a couple tries in the garage to get dialed in. Plenty of room for me and my gear, But two people will be pushing it for sure. I am 5'9 and my feet and head were in danger of touching. Only has one tiny vent, but zipped the top of the door open a bit and had no problem with condensation. There is only one pocket and it is small that you might be able to put some coins in there. I only used it a couple nights at 7000 ft in the 20's, low winds so I can't attest to the strength yet. Seems very solid. In spite of everything I absolutely love it. Super light, super packable, bare bones winter shelter.

So far, so good.
