Mountain Hardwear Cohesion Jacket - Men's - 2007 BCS

Great rain jacket with some nice features. I found it breaths well, and doesn't stick to your skin when wet. This isn't the type of shell that would normally take a zip in liner, it's lighter -- much more of a rain jacket than a skiing shell, sharp edges would rip through this. But like any shell will work on the slopes with proper layering. Quality is outstanding, for what it is. the waterproof, windroof qualities and stretch panels also make it a great piece for hiking, back packing, climbing. Packs up small, I also take it on motorcycle rides in case I get caught in a shower.

I finally had a chance to wear this jacket as the temperature got high enough that I didn't need a full fledged parka. It was raining but I put a fleece on under it and the fit was perfect. The water beaded up and I did not overheat whenever I went inside with the jacket zipped up. The mesh interior pockets kept my hands dry and cool. I take a 40-41 and bought a large (42-44) so that I could wear something underneath but it fits fine by itself.

Bought this jacket b/c my REI rain coat wasn't breathable enough during warmer seasons. The interior material doesn't leave you feeling clammy like other laminates. Feels smooth to the skin. Stretch material on the under side of sleeves and on the shoulders work great when you have backpack strapped on tight and need a bit of a give in the material when reaching for objects. Definitely more breathable then my previous none Gore jackets. But lightweight enough for summer rain. Large pit zips help cool down quickly. I'm size 48-50 shoulders and 38 waist. I opted for XXL, fits great. Only down side is that after 4 short amount of use, water stopped beading, but still kept me dry. Not a huge deal since I can simply recoat the jacket. If you have the money and want breathable waterproof material, go for the ones that uses eVent fabric. If you are looking for something more affordable, this is a good consideration.

I am usually a devotee to Mountain Hardwear equipment and outerwear. I own a tent and a fleece of theirs and love both. I got this jacket as a layering piece to put over my fleece when I was hiking/running/skiing. As others have mentioned, it's fine in a light drizzle and has some wind resistance, but when the rain comes, it does a poor job of beading and the thin protection soon gets 'clamy' as another reviewer mentioned and, especially if you're wearing it next to skin, rather uncomfortable.

Incredibly thin material like a jacket made out of a mylar balloon. I paid $140 for it which is waaay to much for a jacket of this design, I returned it for something more substantial. If you need something super light for backpacking, the occasional shower it could work. For fall winter or spring or for around town its pretty useless.

TOP JACKET!!! perfect for a water proof shell, i bought it for Tasmania but use it for over night hikes as well. Its light and was real affordable too.

As other reviewers have mentioned, it can get clammy and a little uncomfortable next-to-skin when it's raining. I think the Conduit laminate is at the limit when in a rain-storm in the northwest, it's 60 degrees, and I'm backpacking uphill and sweating! I'm honestly not sure if another jacket would perform better in these conditions unless it had additional elements to the lining that would also increase its weight.

I use this jacket as a rain jacket for 3 season backpacking in the northwest. In summer I wear a convertible (sleeves) thin shirt so that I can roll the sleeves down before putting this jacket on. This increases the comfort significantly and I highly recommend that to others.

For the weight, the jacket is very durable, and at the price it's a very decent backup rain jacket that stuffs inside my backpack very nicely.

If I'm out in the winter, or I *know* I'm going to be wearing a jacket most of the time I will instead take my 3 layer Goretex jacket with more "comfort" features. But that's almost double the weight so it's not a fair comparison to this jacket, which in my opinion is absolutely ideal when it's *probably* not going to rain, but you're sensible and you're taking a rain jacket with you anyway.

Lightweight, breathes, is waterproof, does the job! Much better choice than the Patagonia Rain Shadow which is one of Patagonia's worst products.

This jacket is extremely versatile, allowing for use in a lot of environments. I've used it in a tropical rainforest with my pit vents open (just a little sweaty, but kept the rain off), snowshoeing (best jacket for this purpose I've use), riding my bike, going to class...and so on. You can put anything under it for warmth, while it works very well to keep the elements out.

My wife and I do a lot of day hiking and she packs The North Face Flight Series & I have the Cohesion just in case the rain rolls in It is very light, and has kept me 100% dry, in moderate downpour It fits really good, I'm 5'7 200 and the Large fits great with regular base layer under. I agree with the other review the jacket is louder than the old corduroy pants I had when I was a kid, so if that bothers you this might not be what your looking for. For what I use it for I give the Cohesion 4 thumbs up, with a snap.

Sweet shell, I can't believe how lightweight and streamlined it is compared to my old Sierra Designs shell. It’s very effective at keeping wind and rain out. The fit is excellent, it’s not too snug nor loose. The stretch panels work great. I'm 5'8", 170lb and I ordered size medium. Just two minor gripes: I wish the chest pocket was a little bigger and the shell is a bit noisy. Overall I'm very happy with its performance so far. Thanks for hassle-free service. The website is informative, good selection, easy to navigate. I will definitely order from you guys again.

This shell is a great value. I've used this jacket for 2 years as a rain coat during the warm season and as an outer shell during ski season. The entire jacket, from the fabric to the zippers has held up great after all the hiking and skiing I've done in it. Of course, if you can afford more jacket, then go ahead and buy a higher end shell or softshell. But if you're looking to get max bang for your buck, this jacket will definitely do the trick.

It is water proof and the DWR can easily be reapplied, so it meets all of my needs and expectations. I do not do a lot of strenuous activity in the rain just some light weight day packing, so the pit zips and mesh pockets work well enough to vent any perspiration. If you want a **** shell go buy a $$$$ shell.Worth the $ paid.

I needed a light weight shell living in Texas it generally is not that cold when it rains. This jacket does very well on many fronts, light, great fit and lots of venting adjustments make this a great choice.

This jakect let's water in. I had it for about two months and it kept off really light rains, but anything from moderate to heavy and my arms were soaked. This is the first piece of MH gear I've ever owned, and it's reall disappointing

The look is great, but most importantly it works! I haven’t had a chance to use it in a downpour or for backcountry skiing. Around town it is an excellent piece of gear to tuck somewhere in your bag, and you’ll never again need to bring an umbrella. It is so lightweight that I forgot having carried it around with me. I've had the Cohesion for about 8 months now and must say that it is a horrible shell. It does okay in light rain and snow and got me to the top of Mt. Rainier (fortunately we had good weather), but in the Seattle rain it performs poorly. Moderate downpours bring on a clammy feeling inside the jacket, which demonstrates the garment's lack of breathability. The pockets even fail to keep my wallet fully dry. I am now hunting for an alternative.

I went through a couple of 'equivalent' lightweight shell/rain gear pieces before I got a great deal on the Cohesion. I've used it in varying conditions from drizzle to sleet to snow and it has functioned quite impressively for such a lightweight garment. I immediately questioned its durability when I felt the material, but it has held up quite well over the last five or six seasons. I have not had to clean or re-waterproof it yet and have since become a believer in the Conduit laminant. This is a nice piece.

I was looking for a rain jacket with a double zipper. It was hard to tell from the picture and description whether it had it or not; I ordered it any way. I'm sorry it didn't work out. It's a great-looking jacket other than that!

Purchased this jacket fully knowing it was a shell and fully expecting that the reputation of Mountain Hardwear gear would prove it to be a quality purchase. Wrong! It was a bit short as far as length goes plus it's like wearing a garbage bag...the jacket makes a swooshing sound when you walk and the material doesn't seem like it's quality stuff...plus they want you to apply some waterproofing spray to it...ridiculous! Returned it for hopefully a better jacket. Sometimes you're just better off with Gore-Tex.
