The Mountain Hardwear Chugach 3D Pant wraps your legs in Polarguard 3D insulation, the same insulation you love in your favorite sleeping bags. Far from naptime wear, The Chugach's Double Velcro waist adjustment, full side zips and Velcro cuffs are designed for serious alpine climbs. When you're dangling out in the freezing, open air you'll appreciate the Chugach's warmth, and when you're packing it in, you'll appreciate its svelte weight.

Bottom Line: Think mobile sleeping bag.

Bomber

By:

These pants are bomber! This is my second pair, as my first were stolen and these performed far too well not to replace. I have used them extensively during winter mountaineering and wore them to the top of Denali. The full side zips make them easy to add/remove while wearing boots / snowshoes / crampons. They pack small and loft well for synthetic, and you don't have to worry about moisture issues.

Great "belay" layer

By:
December 12, 2006

I've been testing these for a multi-day winter running race that I will be in this winter. The plan is to cover myself immediately when stopping to keep my damp clothing (from sweat) from freezing and chilling me - much like a climber would use while belaying. The full zips make this quick on/off very easy. The insulation is warm and stays that way when it gets damp from wearing over sweaty clothing. I wish they weighed a bit less, as other similar pants do, but these are more durable than those other brands.

Very Warm.

These pants are great to keep you warm. I work nights and they are super warm I wear them under my coveralls and never get cold. Buy these if you are cold natured or work outside.

Not for those 6' 2 and over.

By:

These are cool pants and seemed nice and warm but I am 6'2 and the legs only came down to the top of my ankle high hiking boots. I could picture "wise guys" pointing at me a saying "Where's the flood?"... The sizing chart for these pants is wrong, I measured the inseam and it came to about 30 3/4 inches... Patagonia is the only company I have found so far that makes their pants a little extra long which is great for taller men.

These turned out to be just what I needed. Great warmth and compressibility without all the fluff and worry of keeping dry with down.
