Why party at home when all you can think about is getting outdoors? The Mountain Hardwear Casa 6 Tent 6-Person 3-Season lets you and your group build an instant basecamp in the backcountry. Enjoy the spacious freedom of a tall vertical entry, quick-pitch design and lots of ventilation to keep things fresh—because six pairs of climber’s feet can funk things up in a hurry.

  • Guaranteed watertight construction to keep the storm outside the tent
  • Crosshub pole structure and Yunan 7001 aluminum poles for strength in stormy weather
  • Dual slider mesh and canopy doors give you entry options
  • Enormous vestibule provides a large dry entry option during storms
  • Large mesh windows provide great ventilation
  • Taped floor and fly seams for waterproofing

Bottom Line: Build a bigger basecamp.

Nice tent, but a problematic pole design

Although I never got to use the tent, I need to post a review that may reflect other MH tent products.

The tent was a perfect size and weight for car camping or basecamp use, and the quality of the materials seemed very good. However, their pole design forced me to return the tent after setting it up in the yard once.

The problem is that the pole ends are force-fitted into the end of pole segments. They don't use glue, but that end is shoved in there so hard it is near impossible to remove it....well, actually impossible for me. So, when I opened the new tent and one shock cord was not secured to the pole end, it was impossible to reattach the shock cord without being able to remove the pole end. I talked to MH customer service, and they admitted that it was extremely difficult to remove the end. (They didn't explain to me why the pole end needs to be so secure.) They did offer to replace the entire pole, but am I supposed to get a new pole every time there is an issue with the shock cord?

Bottom line: shock cords need to be replaced in all tent poles after several years since the elastic eventually breaks down. Since you are probably planning on keeping a $400 tent more than a few years, are you willing to have to replace all of the poles when just the shock cords go bad? Nope, me neither.

The pole ends screw into the end of the pole.

I own 3 MH expedition tents and haven't had a problem with any of them. MH takes a lot of time into the engineering of their products. Matter of fact, I lost one off the side of a mountain and they sold me a replacement at half price! I will say that I have seen many people mishandle the tent poles of tents by yanking the pole from the tent receiver tab which is NOT what you should do. You run the risk of dislodging the shock cord tip end. Care must be taken to remove the tent poles. Yes, the shock cords go bad but I just had my first REI tent pole go bad after 12 years and this was inexpensive tent. MH stands behind their products so you can't go wrong.
