The tough-as-nails Mountain Hardwear Women's Barisian Softshell Jacket scoffs at the mountain wind and gracefully stretches and breathes as you swing your ice axe, plant your ski pole, or hit your stride on the hiking trail. A cozy ergonomic hood covers your noggin' when you need extra shelter and a drawcord hem keeps the cool air sealed out. Chest pockets sit above your climbing harness so you can still grab that lip balm as you set up a belay.
Bottom Line: A hardy, high-performance mountain shell with a ladies-only fit.
olb. Yes. Although it is not a waterproof/breathable laminated shell it will still work well in cold snowy conditions. I use the Barisian Softshell primarily backcountry skiing. From a detail standpoint, it is an air permeable softshell (air travels both ways through the shell) with a warm fleece back that utilizes a very durable DWR (durable water repellent finish) on the outside of the jacket for weather resistance. All of these attributes make it a great jacket for a variety of conditions. I hope this info helps!
I was looking for a light weight versatile rain jacket with hood for out door excercise. It doesn't get terribly cold were I live, but this jacket has kept me warm and dry on night hikes. I really like the huge hood (with the peak) for keeping rain out of my face. Also, I like that the material is not the typical rain repellant material that makes a swoosh sound everytime your arms rub past your side. I got the jacket in large, for layering, but a medium probably would have done the trick since it doesn't seem like I will need to layer very often, so I'd say pretty true to size on the ordering.
I want a jacket I can ski and work outside in. Does this jacket have any insulation? Also since it is water-resistant will I be soaked by the end of the day?
This is an air permeable softshell jacket... which means that it is highly water and wind resistant but not water or wind proof. The benefit of a piece like this is that it breathes really well in aerobic situations and keeps the majority of the wind and water off. I use the men's version of this jacket in the spring, summer, and fall backcountry skiing and climbing. The fabric does have a little bit of insulation in the form of a brushed back (fleecy) Hope this info helps!

carolyn. I would say that it is more of a blue w/ purple undertones. It is always hard to see colors on websites but these guys do a great job. Ice has a bit more white in it I would say... hope this helps.
We bought this jacket for our entire office and everyone loves it (that's 20 reviews)! It's a great spring/fall jacket and yes, the hood is large, but it's the first hood that actually keeps the rain off my face so i dig it. It's a terrific fit and looks great on everyone. FYI sizes do run a little small, good thing to keep in consideration if you like to layer. I also have to give a quick shout out to Mr. Uribe who helped us find this jacket, he was very helpful, knowledgable and great to work with. Looking forward to more orders in the future!
Yes. In that both jackets are air permeable softshell jackets. Not sure of the actual content of the Apex Bionic but I do know that the fabrics are similar. Hope this helps!
I ended up buying this jacket because I wanted a soft shell with a hood. It was a little thinner than I expected-to compare, definitely thinner than TNF Apex Bionic. I ordered a large (my normal size in outerwear) and everything fit nicely, except it's a little tight in the hip area. Nothing too horrible, but it's definitely a silmmer fit. It's pockets are higher, but I don't feel like a goof if I have to stick my hands in them, and the fleece on the inside is nice. So far I've worn it in rain and wind (layered over a thick sweater) and I'm satisfied.
