Definitely a well constructed jacket. My torso and arms are long for my chest size so finding jackets that fit well can be a pain. I use this mainly for my fall/spring bike commute to work. No vents for so it can get a little warm during strenuous activity. Snug fit but stylish; You can fit a baselayer and a long sleeved, button-down shirt underneath without issue, but don't expect to have much else. I have a medium and if I were to buy again I would definitely size up. However, this jacket is definitely a staple to my wardrobe. I love the chin guard and the soft lining. Great purchase.

I received this in the mail and the next day took it up full exum of the grand teton. Having never used it before at all, I was going into the situation completely blank slate, crossing my fingers that it wold hold its own. About 8 or 9 pitches up, we faced wind hitting 40 or more mph. A couple more pitches, being 400 feet from the summit, we were surrounded by a lightning storm and snowed out, which eventually turned into a light rain on the rap down. I didnt think too much about the elements because of how well the android worked. I am 6"2', 200 lbs, and the large is a perfect fit with a little room to layer with (which makes it perfect for cold conditions even though it has a bit of insulation). I have since been through similar situations and have only been impressed.
great soft shell. for the peaks and running around town.

Hey Marc, I have a 42" chest and about a 33" arm. this jacket also has the wrist gaiters that make up for the softshell sleeve length, but an xl might be a little more comfy for ya. hope this helped!

Thank you Daniel - it did help. It's a bit of a close call either way, and I am thinking XL may be the ticket.

Hi Daniel, the XL fit well EXCEPT in the sleeves. Lucky for me a co-worker loved it and it fit well, so everyone's happy.
Just ordered an Arc'teryx Venta MX Hoody. The financial hit was softened a LOT by mom's Christmas/B-day money gift. 8-)

Realistically, how warm is the MH Android?...

Realistically, how warm is the MH Android? What's the estimated coldest temperature it can stand? 35 degrees? 20 degrees?
Dave Marcus

It depends entirely on how warm you normally are and what you're wearing with the Android.

I would say that it isnt built for severe conditions, such as 25 degrees or lower, without layering. however, if you have a base layer and a mid layer, it is a perfect thing to have as a shell in cold windy situations that even include precipitation.

This is one of many Mountain Hardwear articles I have and I love each and every one of them. Have not had the chance to put this to a real test yet, but as I bought it for a Rainier climb the first week in June, it will get some use. I got the XL, as I like to have the ability to put layers underneath it. As usual, another great M. H. product.

This jacket is a great purchase. Its light enough to wear when its warm but certainly can hold its own when its cold. I don't know too much about what is the appropriate layering for jackets like this, but wearing a hoodie sweatshirt underneath it is enough for 30 degree temperatures, maybe lower. It also is quite stylish. It also does a great job in light to medium rain.
Overall a great purchase.

I love the fit of MH jackets and this one is no exception. I'm 6ft 205 lbs and this jacket fits well and isn't too loose. The arms are the perfect length while the jacket sits right at my waist. In fact I like this coat so much I bought another. Definitely go for color if you can as I love the sage as well as the red.
Update 1/10/12-I ordered this jacket in the red XL and came to realize that the fit wasn't as good as the other jacket with the reason being that my other jacket in sage XL was the previous year's model. For some reason, the red XL newer model fits bigger around the waist, noticeably so. The arms, length, and chest are all perfect but the waist is just too baggy. I'm a 36 waist.

I ordered an XL for both jackets. Sorry for not mentioning that in my review.
Loose fit

I'm a big fan of the brand, but 2 things didn't work on this one. The collar is too high and, more importantly, the fit around the torso and waist is baggy. I'm 6'0" 180 lbs and the large fit well everywhere else.
Winter on the Oregon Coast-tested

With sideways rain, insane winds (last week we had 70mph winds two days in a row), sleet, and hail, the Oregon coast has got to have some of the most miserable winter weather. But the Android was unfazed. The jacket has kept me comfortable in really awful weather, is comfortable, and gets constant complements on how good it looks. I also had it in the snow for a few days and it fits snugly under a hard shell. I love this jacket. My only complaint is that it runs a bit short in the front (presumably to accommodate a climbing harness), but I can't find any other negatives. I got it in some light green color and people are digging it.
Awesome jacket!

I really like this jacket - so much that I have 2. I am 6' 180 and normally wear a large t-shirt. The medium is a snug fit - not much room for layers under it, but it fits nicely under a coat. The large gives room for a little bit of layering as long as it's not super bulky. I am pretty impressed with how warm they are! The factory finish will repel light rain for a little while but it will eventually begin to absorb water if you get really wet. However, I sprayed one down with some generic waterproofer and it worked pretty well! I was in strong wind and medium rain for couple of hours and it didn't absorb water at all! One good shake of the jacket and it was dry. These are awesome and they make you look sexy
Amazing jacket; worth the price

Bought this jacket maybe two years ago at a local outdoors center and it has treated me very well. Whether I'm hiking, running or cycling this jacket keeps the cold out and the warmth in. It's great at repelling water, too. Well, it used to be. I've been around too many campfires with it and smoke apparently damages the DWR finish. I had at first bought a North Face Apex softshell and immediately returned it as I could feel cold air ripping through as I stepped outside after purchase. I ride my bike at least once a week in winter and all I need underneath is a regular t-shirt overlaid with the MH Android jacket in 20 (F) degree weather. I HIGHLY recommend anyone to get this jacket. If I had the money right now I'd buy another MH Android just to have the convenience of water repellency.
