Description

Windproof and breathable, the Android II will be your best buddy on your next tour.

Whether worn as a mid-layer or as a stand-alone jacket, the Mountain Hardwear Android II Softshell Jacket's windproof, breathable fabric works with your body to maintain a comfortable temperature. Mountain Hardwear kept the Android II's design pretty simple to keep the weight down, but it provides plenty of protection and all the features that you'll really need while navigating the backcountry or navigating the mall parking lot on the way to Hollywood's latest Christmas blockbuster.

The Android II's main body fabric is Mountain Hardwear's Airshield Core Softshell fabric. This highly breathable softshell fabric is completely windproof to keep you warm when the wind kicks up. the breathable fabric allows sweat vapor to escape, so you won't feel clammy and wet while you tour. Hidden cuffs and a one-handed hem drawcord seal out drafts. Zippered hand and chest pockets take care of all your valuables and warm your chilly digits, and a micro-chamois-lined chin guard eliminates the chafe caused by a rubbing zipper.

  • Wind-resistant, breathable polyester softshell fabric
  • Regular fit, waist length
  • One-handed drawcords at hem
  • Hidden cuffs
  • Micro-chamois-lined chin guard
  • Zippered hand and chest pockets

Here's what others have to say...

Judging from the sample images of this jacket on backcountry, I think the Zinc picture has some confidence issues?

Perfect

  • Fit: Runs small

Ordered this jacket in a small for my husband for Christmas. 2 day shipping was on point and received as promised. Unfortunately, it was too exact, so I had to return. Was able to do online chat with customer service on Christmas Day, which was a shocker! He set up the new size to ship was return was rcvd. It did take forever for the return to reach the destination due to severe weather. I called customer service once tracking said it was delivered, and the rep set it up to mail immediately. Rcvd in 2 business days, just in time for our anniversary trip. Came in handy. Hubby loves it.

Perfect for what I wanted

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I moved to rainy Seattle for a short term assignment and noticed that I needed a casual light waterproof jacket. Didn't need it for hiking purposes so I chose this one based on the simple styling. This jacket has been perfect for what I wanted it. I have broad shoulders and large size was a perfect fit. At this price it is a steal (30%). I bought it almost full price.

There are dual purpose jackets, and then there is the Android by Mountain Hardwear. I can honestly say that this jacket is at home on the slopes or at a night on the town. I get compliments on it wherever I go! The greenscape color, which is more of a light grey, looks great with slacks and a shirt but still serves as an awesome softshell. Plus, this thing KILLS wind. Last year my girlfriend and I took a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park where the temps were in the mid twenties with windchills in the teens. I didn't feel a thing with this jacket and a base. Used by itself, it has some pretty good water resistance. I wouldn't rely on it in a torrential downpour, but a fall drizzle is nothing for this jacket.

Features I love: Fleece lined interior (including the pockets), Athletic cut that is super flattering, all around versatility. I'm 5'5" with an athletic build and the small fits me perfectly, however, if I was any taller I would size up. Seriously can't get over how great this jacket is. No complaints. Get it!

Good but not great...

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

This is good if you get it on sale around 100. If not there are better jackets to purchase at the same price point such as the Patagonia Adze and the Marmot Leadville. The Android blocks most win, not all. The wrist closures seem like a good idea but in use they seem and feel cheaper than a velcro closure that would do a better job. The fit is also too boxy.

What is the difference between the Android and Android II?

Ben,
The Mountain Hardwear Android is an older model softshell jacket that used a simpler construction material, called Deflection softshell fabric. The newer model Android II uses the AirShield Core fabric which does a better job of stacking layers of different fabrics to offer a higher quality of breathability, wind resistance, and lightprecipitation protection. The design is similar in both jackets, with 2 zippered hand pockets and a zippered Napolean pocket. The newer Android II model also has a new integrated butter-chamois wrist gaiter to offer comfort and added warmth by sealing out the weather.
