If you're looking to ride Alta for your winter fun, the board stays back and you power through powder on planks. Regardless of the elements or the ski resort, the Mountain Hardwear Men's Altaride Jacket laughs in the face of weather and giggles with diabolical glee when staring down an endless slope of untouched corduroy. Oh wait, that's you in the Altaride Jacket making so much noise. If you were cold and wet, you wouldn't be outside making hyenas seem morose.
Two-layer Dry.Q Core fabric keeps the weather outside of your jacket while letting fresh air in to keep your moving mojo comfortable all day long. Just because you're hitting big air and flying off the rails doesn't mean you can't feel the cold. Thermal.Q polyester insulation (80g) slows the flow of your hot body air outward so you stay nice and warm while waiting your turn in line. Insulation is awesome when your lift chair is covered in a thin sheet of ice, but can be a bit much when bootpacking to your boarding paradise. Underarm zips give excess heat an escape route that doesn't involve you losing clothing.
The 3-way adjustable hood can hold your helmeted head without restricting your perspective, from any direction. A goggle wipe helps keep your line of sight crystal clear. When you're in town, the powder skirt snaps back to stay out of your way. Hand-warmer pockets zip closed, and hook-and-loop flaps keep chest pockets closed. Perhaps the best part of this jacket is the key clip in your left pocket. No more hiding your keys in super secret spots that seem to necessitate the locksmith more often than not.

Great ski jacket

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:True to size

I bought this jacket for a ski trip to Vail--this jacket is the perfect balance of warmth, functionality, and breathability. The pit zips were perfect for cross-ventilization and the jacket is remarkably warm.

Awesome Jacket!

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

The fit on the jacket is perfect. It has a bit of insulation, but not so much much that you feel like the sta-puft marshmallow man. I am 6ft, 250, and it fits me perfectly. With a fleece a sweater it fits nice, with a t shirt it is loose. I have worn this jacket with a fleece in temperatures ranging from 30degrees F to -20 degrees F with no problems. The pockets are plentiful and well placed but there are not so many that you lose your stuff.
