mountain hardwear airshieid review

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

i think this jacket is alot like the patagonia r4. just as warm just as wind proof. if it didnt have the logos on it it would be hard to tell the diff. for the price now for this its a good bang for the buck. you will not be unhapppy. like the r4 i needs pitzips. inside a store you will get too warm . i am happy with the quality and all the crabbing about the logo on it i think the nut is enuff on the sleeve. wish i knew about this jacket alot sooner. cannot get the color i really wanted: duffel in xxl. i wish it was tad bigger just for layering if you needed it.

nice but runs big

  • Gender: Male

Ended up returning this style and opted for the standard moneky man fleece. Jacket was of good quality, with nice soft monkey man fur on exterior. That being said, the deciding factor for me was the size. This style runs long (and wide) in the torso. I had a M and am 5'9" ish, 145 lb for reference. It nearly went past my fly with jeans on. Further there was more than enough room for additional layers to be worn underneath, but I'm also a skinny guy, which may also contribute. This led to a boxy appearance. It wasn't bad but it wasn't flattering either. The standard monkey man is more slim fitting in comparison, which I tend to like better in my clothes. This is also "thiner", or seems to have less of the soft fleece than the standard style. On the other-hand it has the air shield which I will undoubtedly miss and made fir a tough decision.

3 stars for being what I expected. By no means a bad fleece and I'm sure it would have worked well for me. But for ~$250 MSRP, gotta go with what looks better, all else equal. If I had unlimited buying power I would have opted for a small and kept it along with my other standard monkey man.

No logo; inconsistent pricing

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share

The logo on the breast pocket is missing. I'm giving it 3 stars because of that and the fact that it's not very soft and it's pretty rigid-feeling. I bought this for my boyfriend for Christmas and the XL was too big (he's 6'2", 200 lbs) so I had to exchange it. Was sad to find out that Backcountry's exchange policy is to instruct you to just buy the item again and return the initial one. Well, that is great and all, unless they raise the price! Within the two weeks between purchasing and returning, the price went up $12. Grrr!

Responded on

Hey dawp195271, just saw your comment about the return... give us a call and we'll refund you the $12 you lost on that exchange. Next time you need to make an exchange for the same item in a different size just give us a call and we'll set up the order for you at the same price- and even send you a free exchange shipping label! Cheers.

Good Jacket...Missing Logo

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Really nice fleece. I live in Minnesota and this is truly an all weather fleece.

Similar to other reviews, my jacket is also missing the front pocket logo (why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars). At this price, product should come as advertised.

Not as picturered on line

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This jacket on line is shown with the "Mountain Hardware" logo on the chest pocket. The one I received had no logo which leads me to believe it might be second quality.

Responded on

I ordered this jacket from another website, same deal. The jacket was missing the chest logo. Honestly, for the price, I want to rock the logo. At minimum it should be disclosed that the jacket does not have the logo.

Responded on

BC must have changed the picture since December, the logo is now missing.

This jacket is meant to keep you warm. Why does it matter if there is a logo on it or not?
