Jacket to Sleeping Bag Combo

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

This jacket is actually owned by Bill whose review is actually located below, it's a size XL, I'm roughly 5'5" 130lbs, and this thing comes down over my knees when I'm standing straight. It's about 4 inches longer than my arms as well. BIG JACKET. FEEL LIKE A PUFF BALL.

I think you might need to size up a little bit. Looks a little small.

I agree with Mr. Glaubman on this front.
That jacket looks too tight to possibly perform basic functions.
Size up at least 3x. :)

I am curious on the size... I am about the same weight and an inch shorter than Bill Porreca in the post below. I fill most Large coats through the chest and shoulders not leaving a ton of room for too much else. When a coat like this that is supposed to have layers underneath did they size it up as a standard measure or do you just get a larger size than you would normally buy from them? Being a medium in their bottoms and a standard large in every coat or top I buy. The thought of having to go to an XL in a jacket seems a bit excessive due to the fact the lengths in the arms and body are enormously long for my short thick stature.

Greg, the jacket is pretty big in a large. I wore it the other day with a t-shirt on and there is a lot of space. When I put it over my other two jackets, Patagonia Down Sweater, and Patagonia Troposphere it fits pretty good I think. There is room to move and what not but its not to huge. It really feels big near my wrists. This is not a huge deal I am only using this for 3 things: Walking extremely slow such as one step for every 2 breathes, belay jacket where it can be annoying but its better than being cold, and finally just to get my gear on outside my car then I toss it in the trunk and away I go.

You mentioned a size large in your first sentence. I was just curious if that is the size you are talking about or are you talking about the XL in your review below? Thank you for your reply and your Email as well.

It's a cocoon!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I took this monster to Aconcagua and Denali - both trips this year - and it performed amazingly well. I wear a large, and am 6'2" and 195 (in reasonable shape). On Denali summit day I wore 2 base layers, a soft shell, and an Atom SV under this and was toasty warm despite very cold temps and high winds. In other words, plenty of room to layer. I suggest a compression stuff sack for this garment - it is puffy. BTW, I tried an XL and it was too big all around.I am frankly surprised that there are not more reviews of this parka here.

Extremely Warm

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Thankfully we didnt have to wear it to much but when we did it worked. You definitely lose some dexterity when wearing this jacket its HUGE and PUFFY and keeps you warm in almost any kind of cold. I am sure there are places where this would not work and I probably wont visit them. I am 5'8" about 200lbs bought and XL to make sure it would fit over my other jackets and it was perfect.

Extremely Warm

Does this AbsoluteZero have hand pockets in addition to chest pockets? It is described in other website that there are handpockets. Is this product produced this year? Or is it from years before? Why do you have more discount than others?

Responded on

yes it does, you can even see the pocket in the pic of the orange one.. you can see the top of a pocket!

if you are going to order one, be mindful of the short arm length MHW are doing this year.. its stupid!
