Enter the Mountain Equipment Men's Squall Hooded Jacket. I've been using the Squall for over a year now and it's become a firm favourite for anything on the rock. The stretch woven fabric is light, stretchy and massively breathable so it easily copes with hard leads but is really abrasion resistant and sufficiently windproof for the belay. It's a slim fit, I generally wear mine just over a t-shirt or, if it's colder, one of our Eclipse light fleece layers. The hood works really well with or without a helmet, the face protection has been designed to seal out drafts on big routes but not to be so high that it gets in the way if you're on the sharp end with everything zipped up. Evening cragging or summer alpine walls, the Squall is a brilliant bit of kit.
