Mountain Mist XCR - Men's

The Montrail Mountain Mist XCR Trail running shoes eat mucky spring trails for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Gore-tex XCR gives the Mountain Mist killer breathability and waterproofing. Muddy, wet trails in stifling heat aren't a problem anymore with these shoes; in fact they look downright inviting. A molded heel cup locks you into the shoe for stability and control on sketchy trail surfaces. Because rocks are plentiful and often camouflaged, the Mountain Mist is fitted with a rubber toe wrap and a rigid TPU protection plate. Rigid mesh panels for extra structure and breathability are placed on either side of the laces. The simple question is, would your rather wallow in the puddles or conquer them with the Mountain Mist?

Bottom Line: Muck murderers.

Tread Cautiously

As stated in other reviews the big issue with these shoes is fit. If you have one foot larger than the other (as I and many people do), definitely size to the bigger foot (like hiking/backpacking boots). My left foot feels strangled in this shoe, and I couldn't use them for any trail work without my toes getting trashed. Very narrow as well, so if you got wide dogs steer clear.

there are better shoes.

I found these shoes to be very thin and subsequently after one month of trails, the tops across my toes totally blew out. The Gore-tex ripped, and they were useless. All this after finally getting used to the laces digging into my ankles and cutting off all circulation.

Comfortable once on, but wore out quickly

By:

Comfortable shoes. But not durable. I used these shoes for off-trail hiking in Alaska. Rocks quickly tore up the lugs on the sole. The nylon on top of the shoes, at the base of the toe box, frayed and ripped out quickly. Plus - they are hard to get on, especially when your feet start hurting after day 1 of multi-day trips. I bought these shoes on sale, but only got maybe 20 days out of them. Not impressed.

The true meaning of awesomness

By:

These shoes are flat out awesome; I have had them for 2 weeks and the take abuse and ask for more. Excellent traction on any surface and waterproof as it gets. The other day I found myself standing in a creek almost ankle-deep, and my socks never saw a drop.
