The folks at Montrail know when they have a good thing going. They designed the Men’s Hardrock Mid GTX Shoe on the same platform as the award-winning Hardrock Ultra, but gave it a mid-height upper and the full weather protection of Gore-Tex to create a lightweight and versatile hiking trail run shoe. The Gore-Tex bootie upper keeps your feet dry through stream splashes and late-summer downpours, while the gusseted tongue keeps out trail debris. Montrail backed the comfortable EVA midsole with a TPU protection plate to keep you stable and supported on uneven terrain. The Gryptonite rubber outsole holds fast to everything from washed-out mudfests to slick granite scrambles.
Bottom Line: A burly backpacking boot and an ultralight running shoe got together…
this is the perfect shoe for that. i ran the presi traverse in the hardrock low, the running shoe. if you are hiking then this shoe will rock. the protection plate will help with all the rocks you'll be scrambling. go for it!
Andy, I am not sure what you are used to, but I have been through the whites with Inov-8 Terroc 330s. The HR is substantially more shoe. For summer no worries. I have not used the Gore-Tex model, but imagine not so cold winter days would be okay. The HR will offer no appreciable insulative value! Traction is stellar in mud and wet, slippery surfaces. They are stable and will manage the rocks well. They are very capable of supporting daypack and even multiday pack weights.
I don't see why not. Think of these as a combo hiking/running shoe that has been made even more weather proof with GoreTex. I think they would be perfect for summits in the Whites. Hope this helps!
The Hardrock being the standard for trail running, this high top version is now the standard for moving fast in the sloppy stuff and keeping your feet dry! Great support, lightweight, super comfy and the tred digs into the mud like no other. If your planning on needing to move fast with a pack on the trail in bad conditions this is your shoe!
Can you order a size 14? You are the only dealer listed on where to buy for this model Montrail. So if you can't get them. I have now where else to go.
Hey Kirk,Jump on "live chat" and ask those folks. They'll be able to tell you if they've got any on order and if they do they should be able to give you a rough ship date.Did live chat none on order. Wish I could try these. Been researching for a while and narrowed it down to these. Now I can't find them Any Where.

So I saw some of the reviews, and decided to try a pair mainly for easier trails and approaches, especially those low grade grinds. They felt good, and stable in store. Brought them home , went to try them back on and a webbing eyelet ripped out. This and there brand new, the strongest they will ever be. Makes you wonder how long they would survive the North Cascades abuse that has laid waste to so many mountaineering boots in a matter of months. Hmmm.
Light and comfortable, but stiff enough to feel like you've got some support. I mostly hike in the desert, so heat is a problem. These have been light and cool so far.
i've been throught 2 pairs of the hardrock trail runners and figured these would run the same in size. they felt too narrow and too short when compared to the trail runners, so i had to return them.
I have been waiting for this shoe to come out since April. Unfortunately, you don't have it listed in my size, which is a US 10.5. Can you get me a pair in that size?
