Best trail shoe I've tried so far
- Gender: Male
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I'm a mild to moderate over-pronator, so I thought I'd try these out. I'm currently using them with orange Superfeet. Great traction on the trail in dry conditions but the tread pattern is prone to get clogged in very muddy conditions (as with most shoes). Not bad for running on the pavement either. They are a little bulky, but not so much that it annoys me. The construction is holding up nicely, although I have only logged about 50-60 miles on them so far. I had to order a half size larger than my other shoes, and have found this to be the case with the Rogue Racer and Badrock as well. All in all, I'm happy with my purchase.
Fairhaven sizing... How small /or large...
Fairhaven sizing... How small /or large do Montrail's fit? I wear a size 10 in road trainers with a thumbs width to the toe wall, and vary between 9.5 and 10 depending on the type of shoe. Thanks in advance!
Eric. I have found that the Fairhavens fit true to size. I am a 10 and have size 10 in a Fairhaven. I hope this info helps!
Not bad, but not great
Not one of my favorite Montrail shoes to actually run in, but I love them for casual wear. In my opinion, they are fine for running on fireroads and regular road runs, but they were a little to cushy and bulky for any technical, off balanced trail conditions. However, I use mine all the time for casual use and love them for that. Montrail has better shoes to run in like the Rogue racer and the Masochist and Rock Ridges
The Fairhaven shoe
love this shoe ! For me it's the best so far and i've tried many makes and models. I have run many miles in these shoes and they will be on my feet for the JFK 50 mile ultra Nov.2011
Thanks Trail Runner Mag!!
I absolutely love this sneaker. I was looking for a nice shoe to take out on the road as well as the trail and found great balance with these. If you're only going to encounter smoother trails and maybe a few hills, then these will be an awesome alternative that work great on the roads, too. If you need support and are going to be on a more rugged trail, then check out the Sabino and Mountain Masochist. Otherwise, give these a shot. Very "cushy" for a trail runner. . .
