MontBell Ultralight Thermawrap Pants - 2006 BCS

Aesthetically, the looks of these pants are, well, subjective! Not as "cool" looking as some models, but who are you trying to impress? Cute marmots? They're light as hell, warm as heaven, pack small, have full side zips, and water beads of them better than my softshell. They work very nicely with my one pound sleeping bag, primaloft booties and parka. Plus i get to ack th' fool and bust out some sparkle ninja shenanigans. Just don't drop the roach, right?

I was considering the Patagonia Micro-Puff pants, but decided to try these instead because they are much lighter and cut trimmer so can be used as a mid-layer. I just returned from a week-long climbing trip in freezing temps, and these pants performed unbelievably well, packing small and light to fit in my summit pack, layering well under shell pants as well as layering over pants when needed at a cold belay. The cut of the legs is long enough to fit my 33-inch inseam length, yet trim-fitting. The waistband is comfortable and low-profile. The side zips are very low-profile, and the whole package is very attractive - the photos on the web just don't do justice to how good these pants look. Plus, these pants are very warm and breath very well even without using the side zips for ventilation. These pants have my highest recommendation, particularly if you do lightweight backpacking or alpine climbing, where the weight-to-performance ratio is of highest importance.

Sorry, Mr. Burkey, but if you think these pants are "very attractive", and the pictures "on the web just don't do justice to how good these pants look", I gotta seriously question your taste in clothing.

But hey, who gives a sh*t, right? Bottom line: the pants work like they're supposed to, and so what if they're ugly??

I have the jacket and pants. These are replacing my fleece as an insulating layer on backpacking trips at high altitude. They are so much lighter and warmer.

I've used the UL thermawrap Pants on two backpack trips and can tell you I've never been so comfortable and warm in my 35 years of packing. They weigh nothing and stuff down really small. both trips were in the Sierra's in the fall and winter. Warm, light, and minimum space required...what's not to like. I highly recomend these and the Thermawrap jacket.

Great pants, super light. However, I went with the down version because the Thermawraps had a rivet on the bottom that may hurt on my shin if it gets between it and my boots. Dan

Great pants: feather light, fit well, very warm, highly breathable and long sleeves (which is very important for me, I hate pants that cut like shorts) makes it perfect as a mid layer for sport activities in subzero temperature.

I returned these pants as soon as I tried them on. They were not what I was expecting at all. The fit was very wide in the legs and looked like clown pants. Two of my friends had a good laugh at my expense when they saw me put them on. They might be good for cold conditions, but I would like a fit that was a bit more tapered.
