Description

This down dearie weighs a 1/2 pound, packs down small, and offers insulation from the hood to the hem.

At just over eight ounces, the Montbell Women's Ultralight Down Parka weighs less than a can of soda and brings the core-stoking warmth of 800-fill goose down to your winter life. This highly compressible jacket packs down to the size of your water bottle to easily to slide inside your hiking, climbing, or carry-on bag, and reinflates faster than most celebrity chef egos. The body-slimming silhouette lets you slink between trees or to the front of the tram line without leaving a wake of of bodies behind you.

The entire jacket, hood included, tips the scales just over eight ounces. The 800-fill down is responsible for a solid two ounces, or a quarter of the weight. The high fill-power down means for two ounces of insulation, you get a bigger bang for your insulation buck than a lower fill-power down could provide. The fill-power indicates how much space a single ounce of down occupies. The bigger the number, the more space that ounce of down takes up. The more space consumed by the down, the more warmth the insulation provides per unit of weight. Here, you get a full two ounces of 800-fill power down. For you, this just means an eerie amount of warmth for a jacket that seems to float.

The hem drawcords hide in the pocket so you don't have to expose your delicate digits when you want to seal out cold air. The insulated hood won't let you lose your head and adjusts for comfortable fit. Sewn-through construction prevents the down from shifting and settling, and zippered hand-warmer pockets should prevent your mid-morning snack from freezing.

Hi James
Thanks for that. I'm just wondering if you ship to Australia? That would be a good place to start!!

Responded on

While BC is allowed to ship certain brands and items outside the US, not all of their inventory is subject to that policy. I regret to inform you that although they can, in fact, ship to Australia, Montbell is one of the brands that cannot be shipped to any location except those within the US and Canada. If you have family within either of those countries, you could order it and send it to them, and have them ship it to you, or perhaps you could check out Montbell's website, as they may be able to ship internationally. If you want to view which brands are subject to shipping restriction, check out this link (http://tinyurl.com/k6tqsgv).
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I hope you can get your hands on this puppy. I will let you know, notwithstanding that abhorrent news I bring, that Montbell garments, aside from a few select pieces, generally run slightly on the smaller side, (e.g. I have a MB Alpine Light Down Parka that I purchased in a Medium size, but fits me perfectly, whereas I normally buy clothing in Small and it fits fine or mayhap a bit generously depending on the brand.) so if you do get this, consider a Medium size seriously before going forth. As with anything, though, find reviews, and check out MB's sizing charts to see what fits for you!
Hope this helps!

What size would you recommend as I am about 5'1" and about 150lbs? Thanks

Hi Leona G.,
I would love to help guide you in the direction of a size that would fit you snugly while providing a tremendous amount of comfort, but would you be so kind as to provide a few of your physical measurements (i.e. chest(bust) size, waist, sleeve length)? Height and weight are a start, but measurements that you or someone can give you to throw out are certainly a better guide.
Hope to hear back.

Do It!!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I purchased this jacket last November and have literally worn it every day both last winter and this winter. I am 5'7" and 140 lbs with an athletic build (broad shoulders, small hips) and the medium fits really well.
I am an avid climber, horseback rider, river rafter, hiker, and Outdoor Recreation student and this jacket has served me well as I layer up for the cold Utah winters and chilly desert summer nights. Plus, I've gotten many compliments by both outdoors people and regular civilians on how fashionable it looks. SCORE!

LOVE THIS

I bought this jacket about a year ago, and love it! Being 5,7" and about 130 lbs I decided to get a Meduim so that the torso and sleeves would be long enough, and so that I could still fit a layer underneath. I purchased this jacket primarily because my Patagonia Down Sweater (no hood) wasn't cutting it--I was always cold! I love this jacket though! The fabric is much more durable and the fit is much better. I have never been cold during the Maine and Upstate NY winters.

This Jacket is also great as a layering piece. I usually wear it underneath a shell or another winter coat when I am skiing. I have lots of trouble keeping warm and without it. The UL down parka has become my go-to jacket for skiing, hiking and everyday wear. Great Jacket
