Cold alpine weather calls for a full mountaineering wardrobe, and the Mont-Bell Ultralight Down Pant delivers. Premium 800-fill goose down promises both warmth and compressibility, which is key when you’re strapped for space at 13,000 feet. Ballistic nylon makes this one tough set of pants set to take your altitude abuse, and DWR finish means you’ll stay dry as well.

Bottom Line: A must-have for extended at-altitude trips.

I am 5'10" and 200 pounds. I wear a 36 in waist and my inseam is a 32. I want to get some of these, but want to be able to layer them over at least a pair of long bottoms, and sometimes possibly over a very light weight pair of hiking pants. Would a large work for this, or should I size up to an XL?

Stick, I match you except I'm 195. Large is a perfect fit for me with Cap 3 bottoms. I think there is enough room to wear over a light pair of pants also.

Stick I would say go with a Large.... Looking at your height and waist and inseam size I would say it would be fine.... The XL will likely be way to long for your height. Hope this helps.

The Warmest, Lightest Layer Available

Weighing in at 6oz (measured on my scale at home), you won't find a warmer lighter layer out there... hell they weigh less than most t-shirts! I have had the MontBell Down Inner Parka for years, and love it. So I finally decided to get the pants to go with it, and I am totaly satisfied. These pants will keep you warm by themselves in mild climates, work great as a layer in more extreme environments, and will cut weight from your pack. What the heck are you waiting for... order them!

13.3oz is the weight of the tec pants. They have more fill a heavier 50 denier outer on the lower parts giving the higher weight. These are ~6oz.

Does anyone know how the sizing runs? My boyfriend is between a 33 and 34 and inseam of about 31. Should I go with the medium or large? For inseam looks like medium, but if they run small I'll go with large. Thanks!!

The 13.3 oz is for the Montbell ultralite tec pant. Has full side zips and heavier fabric too. Probably a mixup when the data was entered.

Drew,
I believe you are right. The manufacturer lists 6.8 oz for the medium size, a guy on backpackinglight.com states his XL weighs 8 oz, and if you click the link below to view the 2007 version, it is listed at 7.4 oz. I believe the 13.3oz is a mistake, but I have no idea where they got the number from. It might be wise to click the live chat link and point this out to a customer service rep and also make certain that the pants do indeed weight the 7 oz I suspect they do.
