For lightweight summer trips and minimalist backcountry outings, the MontBell U.L. Spiral Hugger #3 Sleeping Bag provides a comfy night’s rest with room to move. MontBell’s Spiral Stretch System uses elastic stitching in a spiral pattern to hold the insulation close to your body and give you some wiggle room while you sleep. The ultralight shell fabric resists light condensation thanks to its DWR treatment, and the 800-fill down insulation gives you the ultimate warmth to weight ratio.

Bottom Line: An ultralight down bag for minimalist backcountry travelers.

Good for ultralight backpacking

For the price, its hard to find a lighter bag. The rating is about right, but your sleeping comfort is highly Dependant on other factors such as your sleeping pad. In 50 degree weather, I use this bag like a blanket with a R3.6 inflatable pad.Packs a bit larger than a 1 liter nalgene bottle. Though thin, the fabric feels surprisingly durable. I would agree with the assessment of Alex on Dec 11. Good 3 season bag. The only reason I would not give it a 5 star rating is because of the way the spiral bags are made, there is potential that the down can be packed into one side. The down filled pockets aren't sealed and run diagonally across the bag.In retrospect, I think I should have gotten a 20 degree bag and a 45 degree bag.

I wish I could keep it

The bag is very well made and super light. Not as stretchy as I thought but still more comfortable than my older goose down bag. Overall it's a great bag for cool summer trips but not really for cold mountain backpacking trips and it should be rated more like 40 - 45 degrees, not 30. I took it to Death Valley last November 2009 for backpacking trip and I don't think temperature fell below 32 degrees but I felt very uncomfortable, waking up most of the night, feeling cold ... and I always thought I'm "warm blooded" person. Because of that reason I had to return it. I really wanted to keep it because it's so light and small but I think I'm going to stick to "classic" 20 degree rating bags.

Backcountry was great with doing a refund, no questions asked. Great company so far.

Just right!

I was a little concerned since this bag is very thin, you can see the down through it if you hold up to a bright light. But that thinness is what makes it so light and it packs down to next to nothing. The included stuff sack makes it unnecessary to buy a compression sack. It kept me warm to about 35 degrees, I haven't tried it in anything colder yet.

A pound lighter than my old bag really warm

By:

I don't know how they made a 1 pound bag so warm, but I was tostey on several frosty mornings this season. I'm not sure I'd trust it in the snow but definately a full 3 season bag. I didn't really find it quite as stretchy as they advertise, but plenty roomy for me, at 5'-9" and 180lbs. Highly recommended.
