Lightweight, easy to pack, warm

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I wore this down jacket underneath my shell for skiing and hiking this past winter. It's very lightweight, easy to pack, and fits true to size. Unfortunately every few times you wear it you have to comb over and push down feathers back into the coat. I called their customer service and they said it was normal. As long as I get a handful of seasons out of it I'm okay with that.

Very Lightweight, Comfortable, and Warm

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

This Montbell down jacket is lightweight and warm. Just what I was looking for in a down jacket/sweater. The only drawback is that the outer shell it is not very downproof. Down and small feathers are coming out everywhere especially on black tee shirts.

It is indeed lightweight and warm but I have had similar issues with down coming out.

Love the jacket. Light, warm, and comfortable. Excellent value for the price. Size runs true - I'm 6'0", 210 lbs, and fit size L.

This jacket crushes it for the price. Simple, warm, and not in your face. I replaced an older $200 NF down jacket with this one and I'm not looking back.

I'm 5'9" 180 athletic build and a size M fits perfect.

Simple and Warm

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

A very simple, warm and, from what I can tell so far, sturdy down jacket. I have owned similar down jackets made by Patagonia and RAB before that cost twice as much, but this one is just as good.

The main difference between this jacket and the more expensive ones seems to be the compression. This jacket comes with a stuff sack, but is 20-30% larger than some of the pricier models.

What's a stuff sack, and what affect does it have on the jacket?

A stuff sack is a small bag you can stuff the jacket into so you can put it into a backpack without taking up tons of space. They have the same thing for down sleeping bags.

Awesome value

This is a sweet jacket for the price. I highly recommend this jacket for anyone who wants the warming power of down for the price of a "normal" North Face Apex jacket. The down does not leak out of the seams like other jackets in this price range. I use this jacket around town and it works wonderfully when I bike at night. The Highland does compact into its own stuff sack but it's about the size of a 32oz Nalgene. I got the indigo and I love the color. Bottom line: Get this jacket if you want a basic, no frills puffer jacket for around town use.

Anyone own this? I was interested in this...

Anyone own this? I was interested in this as I heard it was coming out, great price point. I want a matte finish shell like the patagonia has but I don't like their fit. Pics, reviews? Thanks.

Great value. I got the indigo, which is a muted purple blue color with a matte finish. No flashy NF shell here :D

Great jacket so far - worn it down to 15 degrees when outside, and with a base layer was plenty warm for shoveling. Nice fit - snug enough to use as a layer, but not constricting. I'm 6'0" and 170 lbs, bought the medium. The color is as advertised, not shiny like some of the trendier down layers. Haven't needed it skiing yet, waiting for another single-digit snap here in Utah.
