Clip into the anchor, put your buddy on belay, and zip up the MontBell Men’s Flatiron Parka. Filled with compressible, warm-when-wet Exceloft insulation and finished with a DWR coating, the Flatiron is built to handle wet, cold alpine conditions. Internal mesh pockets stop your water from freezing, while the two-way front zipper lets you access your belay device while wearing the jacket.

Bottom Line: Goes great with a belay device.

How well does the Flatiron compress?

Can someone give a comparison to the MontBell U.L. Thermawrap, or say a dollar bill?

Nice jacket, just warm enough

This is a pretty good product. It fits really well, looks nice, has a nice soft liner. It's a good choice for spring/fall days in the mountains. Probable best in the 20-45 degree range. Anything colder then that then a down jacket would be a better choice. I compared it to a number of other hooded synthetic jackets. For the price it was my number one choice. The Arc Teryx Dually Belay jacket is probable a bit warmer and more weather hardy but it runs $500.

These jackets will perform right on par with each other. People really seam to like the Montbell jackets because of the super lightweight bomber construction.

This jacket has 120g of Exceloft synthetic insulation, while the DAS has 170g of Primaloft One synthetic insulation. On paper, it would seem that the DAS would be warmer. The Montbell, however, is lighter and much less expensive.

Comes down below the waist. It is not a softshell material, but it should be fairly quiet. It is softer, fairly lightweight nylon, and not a hardshell material.
