I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. The vest is close fitting, but there is not tight elastic that stretches around your arms if that's what you're looking for. There is a little bit of stretch to the trim material around the arm hole seams, which you can see if you zoom the picture, but I wouldn't say it would help to keep the wind out necessarily.

Wonderful product but the waist line was short for my tall husband with long waist. The ribbing at the hem kept riding up and was really annoying for him and annoying for me to see. Returned.

Mont-bell sizing and cut can be a little wacky; I SO wish I had a local retailer who stocked their stuff so I could try it on first. Even with the great return policy here at BC, it can get a bit tiresome ordering several different items, and in several different sizes, and sometimes ending up with nothing that fits right. This is a great vest, I just couldn't fit in it right, caught between sizes, I guess...

Take a look at the recent down jacket analysis over at BPL and see if you don't decide on this over the Zeus. The Alpine Light is a great piece...

Warm & Light

By:
September 26, 2010

This is an extremely high-quality vest, as has been my experience with all mont-bell products. Super light, very warm, compresses down to almost nothing, and mont-bell rolls with 800-fill goose down here. Alas, I returned it, as I am caught between sizes on this one, and just can't seem to get a size that fits correctly. The XL is too loose, and the Large is a bit tight through the chest. I need to lose a few more pounds, I think...

I am going with the Patagonia Nano Puff Pullover in lage for now; a few ounces heavier, and synthetic as well for the wet weather, but still light and cut right for layering under my hardshell.

I am giving this vest five stars, I'm just not keeping it. Thank you, Backcountry, for your outstanding return policy, and I may revisit this or the Alpine Light Jacket at another time. I love The Goat!

Cam,

This vest is legit. It isn't bushwhacking tough, but the face fabric will hold up. If you ever can get past the light weight materials, you'll be very impressed with it's durability.

Barry,

No doubt; I was very impressed with the quality of this vest, it was strictly a fit issue for me. I'm a bit lighter and slimmer now, and just ordered the Alpine Light Jacket in Large. I have my fingers crossed...

I hope you don't plan on a vest getting you through a Michigan winter all by itself. Unless you have Sasquatch arms, a vest is all about layering. As part of a clothing system, this thing holds its own. It's a little on the short side, but it's wicked light and packs into a meatball. Mmmm... meatballs....

Excellent Layering Piece

By: Backcountry.com Employee

I've been really impressed with recent MontBell pieces, especially the Alpine Light and Ultralight Down line, and I'm glad to see the brand back. This vest is not especially puffy, but seems like it will provide great insulation, especially for the low profile and low weight. It seems true to size, but perhaps a bit on the short side, which is good for layering under a shell. I got this for my father who typically wears medium jackets (and large t shirts) and is 5'10". The length was perfect for him to wear under his shell without sticking out or interfering with the jacket hem.
