Built for fast-packing up and over ridgelines and through lush gullies, the Montane VIA Dragon 20 Pack is ideal for endurance enthusiasts who are looking for a durable yet lightweight pack that won't prohibit performance.
Fashioned with the rugged yet lightweight Raptor UL fabric, this pack features the Freelight Chassis which enables a comfortable, vest-like fit yet won't restrict breathing throughout your run. The Freelight Chassis' Contact Flyte Mesh is both quick drying and incredibly breathable and the multiple stabilization and compression straps ensure the pack stays close against your body, which in turn prevents hot spots and chafeage. Additionally, the VIA Dragon 20 is equipped with two Montane SoftFlasks and a bladder sleeve for quick hydration on the go. A myriad of pockets cater specifically to endurance runs and fast-packing endeavors while the pacer pole attachment point securely hold poles when not in use.

- Familiarity: I've used it several times
Light enough to use as a race vest with the storage capacity of a day pack, I simply don't have enough great things to say about the VIA Dragon 20 from Montane. Durable 100 denier, polyurethane-coated nylon with fully taped seams and the roll top make it theoretically waterproof although I admittedly only had sporadic showers to deal with. The bells and whistles each address an actual need(pole loops, exterior water bottle constraints, etc). The next-to-body fit is super comfy and makes for a secure ride, although it can get a bit warm when jogging. But I'm totally cool with that trade-off. The external hydration bladder set up is a bit awkward but it works and, again, fair trade for some extra room on the inside. The velcro strap fit snug right around my diaphragm and didn't restrict breathing whatsoever.
One thing to be careful of, I reckon, is that I'm a pretty skinny dude(6'/165/36" chest) and this fit me perfectly. If you're working with some decent mass topside it might not work for you. I need to get one of my buddies that could bench press me to try it on and see how it contours. Will update then.
