The Montane Men\222s Slipstream Jacket provides optimal performance with minimum bulk thanks to its near-seamless design and practically non-existent weight. This 3oz Montane dynamo is ready to bike and run as long as you are\227and longer. The Slipstream\222s Pertex fabric helps block the wind and rain as you train while its breathability keeps you cool and dry as you crank out mile after mile. Articulated arms provides more freedom of movement and a drop tail hem keeps you covered. An elasticized waist keeps this Montane jacket in place when you\222re on the move. The Slipstream comes with its own stuff sac for when it\222s time to shed a layer.

Bottom Line: Weighing in at 3oz, the Slipstream proves that sometimes less really is more.

Jacket fits tight hence the name Slipstream

By:
November 5, 2009

First the fit:

Certainly no excess fabric is used on this jacket hence the low weight, body hugging fit and shorter than usual sleeves; which evidently end just above your wrists.

Fabric:

Although light and thin, it feels stronger than it appears. If you avoid abrasion, this jacket will last.

Overall:

Jacket is suitable for running but not cycling and hiking. On a cyclist, the sleeves would probably end at your forearms when hunched over.
For hiking the slim fit would most likely restrict movement and any possibility to layer.

If you're the type who only wears a t-shirts or base-layer, this could be a useful shell for light wind and rain as it weighs nest to nothing.

I was wondering how water proof or resistant this jacket is.

This jacket will keep you dry in rain showers, but not in a full on downpour.

Its a first time buying the Montane product. And its great, I use it over two thin layers on my body for running. It breathes good and feels good.

Good jacket

Backcountry's description is right on the money. I wanted an extremely lightweight wind shell and that's what this is.
I ordered it in medium, which I wear in about everything. It is very close-fitting; I've only worn it over a thin wool top and can't imagine having much more than that under it.

The only thing I don't like is the elastic waist. All it does is ride up on me, so I took away a star.

Although this appears more durable on the website, it is VERY thin and seems too flimsy to actually be of any use.

I used a montane featherlite smock... similar design, same material . It lasted 2174 miles of backpacking in one season. It continued to travel with me everywhere until I sadly lost it. I ordered a replacement as soon as I could. I like the new model's reflective technology.

Nice lightweight jacket

By:

I bought this as a backup for bike excursions and, of course, the low price. Pertex seems a great material that is showing up on the lighter gear, seems pretty strong to me. This is a very light jacket that packs really small so I always have it with me. Once I have tried it in more serious weather I may modify this review.
Addition: Works very well for biking in my view, cuts the wind down and breathes pretty well. Have not tried it in the rain.
