Great gear to have
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: True to size
I have Salomon S-lab light jacket before purchasing this gear. The Salomon one is good, light breathable but lack of a hood and i am still getting wet if it rains. Got this Montane Slipstream GL Smock with the good review and the lightweight.
Water resistant is good and can keep me dry in light rain, good wind proof and the front pocket is very useful in races for gloves, or as a temp storage for gels and bars. Reminded me the Salomon jacket is lack of any pocket and sometimes not convenience during races.
Overall it is a very good shell and I will recommend to my friends (except it is a bit pricey).
My go to piece of running gear
- Gender: Male
What can I say.......... This smock does what it claims, it weighs nothing and it is incredibly comfortable. I would have to say this is a runners "must have". I'm 6' and 195 lbs with really long arms and the XL fits perfect. Just buy it. You won't regret it.
By far my favorite piece
I like to wear a wind shell instead of a WBP; it traps heat, blocks convection, breathes infinitely better, and offers high wind and some rain resistance. My last wind shell was the Houdinia solid piece, but somewhat 'heavy'...but were talking oz here. This cut the weight nearly in half and is a bit warmer.
As always with Montane, is top shelf...for me. My running partner, though a lanky guy, wrestled with it a bit more than I did while putting it on. The hood wraps over the head almost like a balaclava. The arms articulated really well, allowing a solid fit without constricting arm pits.
I really appreciate the front bib pocket, which can hold a map or bar, or even vent when heating up. I'm not sure why it has a two-way zip on the main, though? Perhaps for your iPod or to reach inside for a bar while staying zipped up.
Black has great heat absorption capacity, so immediately felt its warmth. I liked the kiwi contrast.
I have sleeping bags made from of Pertex Quantum an appreciate their down resistance. Its a tight weave, which makes the fabric highly weather resistant (you will notice it has a very slick, almost trash-bag appearance). Because of this, it may not breath as well as other materials. But it layers extremely wellother garments slide well under/over it with very little resistance.
But overall, this jacket is the one piece I won't go out without. There's no reason not to bring it. If you have a windshell and are looking to upgrade, this is a worthy contender. If you have never had a windshell, get one. Its a genius garment.
Are you guys going to stock the Jacket...
Are you guys going to stock the Jacket version? (full zip, no hood)
We will not. We have had it previously but will not be getting any this season.
