If you're all about going light, the Montane North Star Lite Men's Down Jacket is a winner, with superlight 800-fill HyperDRY water-resistant down and a minimal design that helps you trim the fat and keep your alpine kit light. Both the outer fabric and lining are woven from Pertex Quantum, which is renowned for its featherweight durability and water resistance, and the shell is also finished with a water-repellent DWR coating to make sure the down stays lofty, light, and warm.

To save weight without reducing warmth, Montane built the North Star with anatomical stitch-through baffles; they also give the jacket a low profile and prevent down migrating leaving you with cold spots. The insulated hood is finished with elastic for easy helmet compatibility and has a stowable design to keep it out of way on windy days, and the elastic cuffs and hem are both designed to seal out drafts and keep body heat close. Montane also cut the sleeves to be raised without lifting the jacket's hem and exposing your waist, and topped the North Star off with a series of external and internal pockets for easy and convenient gear storage.
