Description

When warm is what matters most.

Venturing above 10,000 feet requires high-quality, no-nonsense gear. With its 800-fill down insulation and water-resistant shell, the Montane Women’s North Star Down Jacket has what it takes to keep you warm in the mountains and on winter adventures. And weighing in at about a pound, this cold-weather jacket won’t weigh you down or hold you back.
  • Slightly slim, athletic cut eliminates excess bulk and allows the jacket to move with your body as you climb, belay, and rappel—slightly longer length provides extra coverage around your hips and sacrum
  • Freeflow Ultra-lite fabric is water resistant to protect the down insulation and highly breathable to allow evaporating moisture to escape
  • High-quality 800-fill down insulation traps in your body’s heat and provides a higher warmth-to-weight ratio than any synthetic insulation on the market
  • Mini baffles help keep insulation in place and eliminate cold spots
  • Jacket is highly compressible and its loft rebounds exceptionally well—even after repeated compressions; comes with its own stuff sack for easy storage
  • Storm hood is climbing-helmet compatible so you don’t have to sacrifice safety for warmth

Montane north star down jacket

Love this jacket--- great deep purple color --- lofty and soft --- lightweight but warm enough to go out in t-shirt and jacket on cold day--- haven't used for skiing yet but planning to take it to Squaw Valley - able to move easily in it as well!

simply awesome

The jacket arrived and when I pulled it out, I was disappointed by its rather small "poof-factor". We were going through a warm and non-windy spell so I reserved my judgement and waited for winter weather. And it came- single digits, white out snow conditions, and gusts up to 70 mph. I'm impressed with this jacket, especially for its compactness and relatively affordable price. I've only walked the dog in it so far, but foresee it being great for outdoor adventures. Surprising, the hood is actually helmet compatible, although a little snug for my snowboarding helmet.

Love the color, love the style, love the lightweight. I get compliments on it how it looks so warm yet is still feminine and slimming. Love the longer tail in the back. I am tall so the sleeves are just barely long enough and I feel that the sizes are misleading. Generally I wear a 6 or an 8 in women's coats, but had to get a size 10 in this coat because the 8 was too tight across the shoulders and sleeves were too short. All in all a great coat!

Fabulous for climbers

I own the men's version of this jacket, and I bought the women's version for my girlfriend. She loves it. It is a very flattering fit. Now.. she does not climb, and so she does not need the helmet-compatible hood or all the technical features on this jacket. But she looooves the warmth in the light weight package. This is one of the finest jackets you can buy in this insulation class (mid-weight down hooded jacket) and is a huge bargain compared to its competitors. The jacket seems to run true to size. She is 5'4, 105 pounds with 33" chest, and she usually runs between an XS and S. The XS (US6/UK8) fit my girlfriend, but she wanted a little extra room and shoulder mobility, so we went with the S (US8/UK10).

Write your question here...Is it possible to wear this jacket hood up under a ski helmet or use the hood rolled up slightly as a thick collar with a ski helmet?

Responded on

It sounds like you're concerned about the hood getting in the way of the helmet. This jacket was designed to be used for mountaineering and because of this the hood is large enough to go over a helmet.

does it have pit zips?

Tammi, I don't think it has any type of venting.

Love This Jacket!

Wore it for the first time in a blizzard on the beach with winds blowing between 40-50+ mph gusts to walk my husky... the warmest jacket i have ever owned. out there for an hour not the least bit cold had joan of artic boots on. went out a couple hours later with the same jacket - still wet from snow. still 100% warm & toasty. would absolutely recommend.
