Don't gamble when it comes to picking a park ski.
Reno-based Moment Skis has been making established ski manufacturers look like punks since they sold their first ski in 2006, and they're not planning on letting up any time soon. Their do-it-all freestyle ski, the Vice, is clearly the brainchild of some seriously smart, dedicated hermanos who have spent plenty of time hitting park jumps, sliding rails, and setting up urban jibs without forgetting how fun it is to rip the rest of the mountain.
Let's start with the construction. Moment made the core of the Vice from aspen and ash (we should mention that 100% of their wood is sourced domestically and hand-selected to ensure top-notch quality) and reinforced with carbon stringers on the top and bottom, keeping the ski light and poppy, with enough backbone to power over choppy in-runs and stomp mashed-potato landings. The whole shebang is sandwiched between two layers of triaxial fiberglass, which help to keep the ski torsionally stiff, making it a surprisingly good all-mountain tool, and reinforced with an underfoot layer to increase binding retention. The 2.2mm steel edges are overlaid with VDS dampening rubber to prevent de-lamming and ease vibration, and hardened to 48 Rockwell to bite into ice takeoffs and stand up to rocks and rails. Don't worry about shorting your next gap, either, because the 1.2mm Durasurf sintered base is super-fast and holds wax like nobody's business.
Like many of Moment's boards, the Vice is built with Mustache Rocker, which has traditional camber underfoot for stability at speed and great edge hold when carving into take-offs, and rocker in the tip and tail for a playful feel that helps prevent edges from hooking up on rails and boxes and sending you onto your face. The rocker reduces the Vice's effective edge, making it ski slightly shorter, but Moment made up for this by slimming down the sidecut to lengthen the turn radius, creating a ski that's nimble in tight spots without being remotely squirrely at speed. It's also easy to ride switch, thanks to a nearly-symmetrical construction. And, as always, it's impossible to discuss Moment without mentioning the artwork—as always, it's stunning, even the bases.

Hey BC gurus,
Any idea if and when you will be getting some more sizes in for the VICE?
At this time we do not have any plans to replenish our inventory in the Vice Ski. I would check back around August or September when the new winter '15 inventory comes in.
