It didn't take loads of market research or the hiring of expensive consultants for Moment to figure out how to update its Tahoe Ski for 2011/12; after all, this ski has been 95-percent dialed for years. Keeping the stable yet nimble 96mm underfoot, twin-tip profile, and progressive sidecut from previous models, all Moment had to do to take the Tahoe from icon to legend was add dash of rocker. And now that that's been done, all that's left for you to do is A) get your hands on this mid-fat plank and B) put the hurt on choppy chutes, middle-sized drops, and those untouched lines through the trees.
Twin rocker profile matches a flat underfoot with an early rise tip and tail for excellent flotation and maneuverability in variable snow and powder
Aspen and pine core provides a strong flex, a lively rebound, without being unnecessarily heavy
Sidewall construction adds a lot of durability to avoid edge blowouts and overall breakage
All Moment ski cores are sourced from FSC-certified lumber mills in the US for supply-line consistency and to ensure sustainable harvesting
All Moment skis are handmade in Reno, Nevada
Bottom Line: A mid-fat slayer to take you from November to June.
I just got a 188 pair and skied them yesterday. WOW! These are fun. Lightweight, Lively and you can initiate turns very fast. Great stability in the loose snow conditions (4-5 inches).

Rode Rossi 98's in Whistler- loved 'em. Snappy, carvy and plenty floaty for the 12-18" new in Whistler Bowl. But want to hear about Moment Tahoe and Line Prophet 98. I am all over the hill, but look spend most time off piste- want to function well in powder, but crud, bumps, a bit of hiking and trees are usually more commonly available. Also want to speed with/like the kids on groomed. Moment made in USA- never thought I would care, but I do. Anything and everything you know, I'll take it. 6'3", 185, 51year old mid life crisis geezer.
These are a great ski, I have a few different models that moment makes and can't say enough good things about them as a ski as well as a company. For comparing these to the Rossi EXP 98's or the Prophet 98's these will be a little narrower all around, tip, waist, and tail. The Tahoe only has early rise in the tip (the Prophet does as well) unlike tip and tail in the Rossi 98, so it will have a bit different feel. With the early rise you will get that crud chopping ability as well as float in the tip, but more sturdy in the tail for those times everyone has when they get further back than expected and need some additional support. The Tahoe also doesn't have as small of a turn radius and depending on what size you tried in the 98's I would think they felt more like a slalom ski whereas these would feel more like a GS ski. Nice long carved turns will feel more comfortable. That is not to say that the Tahoe would not be as agile, the square tip not only looks cool, it also reduces swing weight and they will have a really controlled feeling when you need to make quicker moves. The Tahoe will also be lighter than either of the other skis you mentioned, the Rossi 98 having a wood/metal core, and the Line Prophet with its Maple core will be a bit heavier, plus moment uses full length wood cores keeping the flex consistent as well as light since they don't have to piece the core together using epoxy or anything. For overall performance for what it sounds like you are looking for, I would say these would be a great fit. Nice and light for the backcountry hikes, agile for those tighter spots, a crud crushing yet subtle early rise in the tip, and a bigger turn radius for long arching turns on the groomers that will allow you to sail past those pesky kids. As for the Made in the USA claim that moment makes on all of their skis, it is actually made more in the US than you would expect. Not only are they made and pressed outside of Reno, NV, each component comes from the US. The wood they use in the cores from various mills across the US depending on the wood, Dura-surf bases made in the US, the resin used to put it all together, sidewalls, topsheets, the works all from the US. The only exception would be the edges, I think they get them from Austria or Germany since no factory in the US makes the top quality edges that most most companies puts in their skis. For me it was more just the cherry on top of their performance and quality built skis, and made it an easy decision for me to want to buy their skis.
I love these skis! I bought them after suffering through the first 2 1/2 months of ice at Squaw. They did great on the hard stuff. But then when Winter finally came in March, I was surprised how much fun these skis were in the crud! This is a great everyday ski!
