Belafonte Alpine Ski

Despite its slapstick name, the rockered Moment Belafonte Alpine Ski delivers the last, powder-choked laugh directly to you. Let them laugh at the summit because it's the last they'll see until the wake of your big line destruction settles. With cat-like agility, the tip rocker floats you through deep conditions, turning on a dime and delivering stability at speed. Bellow the Belafonte name as you hammer through chop with the traditional sidecut and camber underfoot. Snap this powerful and lively hand-laid aspen-and-ash-core ski through a few final trees before you rejoin the group. Time to carve your name in the snow? Just don't direct that celebratory yellow stream towards and seven-wonders topsheet ya' klutz.

Bottom Line: Like a comp-grade ride, but built on a lighter chassis and packing a whole lot more paaahhhtaaay.

I got a pair of these right before I headed down to south america this past summer. Instantly I fell in love with them. They were great in any conditions. Pow, hard pack, crud you name it these skis could handle it. It took me no time to adjust and I'll be competing on these all year!

Ski that loves top speed

By:
April 8, 2011

I got these skis mid season and I have to say, as long as its not a big powder day, these are my go to ski now. They love going fast and way fun for cliff jumping. Its a pretty stiff ski but it still has a lot of pop to them. They aren't great for quick mogul like turns (probably because I have the 192) but they are awesome for high speed and wide arcing turns in any condition. They're a great all-mountain charging ski. I'm 5'11, 170lbs and I tele the 192cm

These skis have a rocker, which means that they ski shorter than tradition skis of the same length. The 174 should be a fine size for you.

It'll ski short. But I'm 5'10" on rockered 177 Rossi S3's and they are perfect length. Just be prepared to charge hard. Cuz with a ski that is that long even with rocker it might be a little much to handle if you have never skiid that big of a ski before. I suggest demo'ing it before you buy. Moment skis are made for the hard chargers.

Radness personified, triumphing over teh Oligarchy of Stupid

By:

Folks, these skis are akin to a dove that lands upon your face coo-cooing until it pulls out a massive AK-47 and manages to destroy an evil wasp that had a nuclear bomb in a briefcase and was going to completely obliterate a Twinkie factory.

To imagine this ski you must look deep inside your own soul and attempt to find that place where speed holds no sway and the bumps are mere play things that derailed Rick James career.

Find (If you will) that tender spot of you that says, hey... I like things fast, wild, and green. It is probably an Incredible Hulk fan, but, to be sure, it also wants to go fast.

Indulge it, feed it, nurture it in the way that Urkel nurtured the Urkel bot.

This ski is super.

Perfect everyday charger

By: Backcountry.com Vendor Rep

Granted I've only been on the Belafonte for two days but it's two days plenty that has me beyond stoked on them. I honestly can't say enough awesome things about these to friends and strangers, and you'll likely have to club me over the head to get a chance at skiing them. At 5'10" & 188 lbs, I found the 182 length perfect for everyday non-powder conditions here in Colorado. In one word? SMOOTH. They ski damp yet are plenty lively at the same time thanks to the carbon stringers. What I like most about the Belafonte is the pop you get off little hits and how quickly they accelerate. Yes there is a speed limit, but it's quite near Mach 2.

Here's a rocker profile shot. As for the stiffness, I can't compare to the Shogun, but for an everyday non-powder charger, I find the flex to be spot on. The Belafonte is plenty stiff from center-to-tail and medium-stiff from center-to-tip all the while still maintaining a playfulness thanks to carbon in the core.

Huge Pop for Huge Air

By: Backcountry.com Employee
November 4, 2010

Like a lot of cambered Moment skis, these have a ton of pop. It took a few laps rallying around the Bird last spring (chop, crud, sun-beat bowls, and icy groomers) to get used to the extra stiff tail and large amount of camber. The Belafonte loves to be up on edge, especially in crud, and skis really smooth once you are moving fast. The mellow rocker on the nose means that your skis won't dive or deflect in variable snow and the tall camber helps you boost over convex bulges of rock and clear those not-quite-vertical cliff bands. I'd recommend de-tuning the edges a bit since they are going to want to grab until they're worn in some. The Belafonte is tough and has a sturdy build - specifically for rough and tumble big mountain skiing.

I'm 5'8", 140lbs, ski the Bird and was loving life on the 182cm.
