Description

Hopping rocks never looked so good.

Just because it's an approach shoe doesn't mean it has to look ugly. Millet designed its Men's Rock Hopper Approach Shoe with a sleek look to get you to those boulders in style―and comfort, too. Its split leather upper has a water-resistant coating and is reinforced by a rubber toe cap and top-stitched reinforcement panels. The fit has been retooled to be closer and more anatomic, and the precise asymmetrical lacing ensures that the Rock Hopper fits like the proverbial glove.

Underfoot, the thermo-molded Hygiene insole takes the impact so your foot stays comfortable, and it stays fresh after multiple uses. The dual-density EVA midsole to keep your foot comfy , and the rubber heel counter offers stability and support so you don't roll your ankle on the trail. The Vibram Ibex sole has deep lugs for excellent traction, and Climbing Zone grippers help you traverse slabby boulders without a problem.

Last FOREVER....

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

These shoes have withstood the test of time and heavy use, both dirt-bagging, climbing, hiking, approaches, slack-lining, you name it!

Last FOREVER....

Good for it all...

I use these shoes at work, while hiking, approaching boulders and climbs, camping, and even slack lining. Great all around shoe and I've had them almost an entire year; please believe this is rare for me. I destroy gear!

Just what I was looking for :)

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift
  • Fit: True to size

I bought these for my boyfriend recently and he loves them. We did a big trip in the southwest and they were great for approaches, canyoneering, and hanging out in camp.

Comfort over precision!

To me an approach shoe is always a compromise. Like an off-road motorcycle? Good for very different uses, and can?t be best at any of them.
As an approach shoe, the RH feels like 70/30, with the greater percentage goes to the ?hike? side. I really enjoy the RH on hikes to climbs and on technical approaches (3rd-4th class terrain) and descents on rock. The sturdiness, comfort and sticky rubber are amazing! However, I find the RH too bulky, stiff and not precise on steeper and more technical terrain, and too heavy and bulky on the harness or in the small climbing pack. I would love to have narrower and softer toebox, with the lacing starts lower and closer to the fingers (for better fit and precision), and the rubber covers more of the upper edge (like climbing shoe), and a lighter weight. Colors are GREAT!

I really like them...

  • Gender: Male

They run slightly large but are durable and comfortable shoes. I use them as approach shoes, around town, trails, you name it. I have sent 5.8+ in them and they performed there as well. Very cool shoe and well worth the cost in my opinion. The have retained their shape and color, there is very little ware and tare on the soles, etc.

Love these shoes

I've been approaching in the Rock Hoppers for a few months now, and most recently used them on the Exum Ridge of the Grand Teton. The shoes were super comfy for the 8-mile slog in, and they were absolutely perfect for the 5.5 ridge climbing on the Upper Exum. The stiffer rubber at the toe, coupled with the reinforced toe-box makes them great for climbing/scrambling and gives em solid durability. The midsole is just the right stiffness for roll and flex on trails, while the padded upper makes them super comfy. Plus I think they just look awesome. Enjoy!
