When you're expecting a cold bivy or a night out during your next climb, pack your gear in the Millet Peuterey 40 Backpack and take on big, difficult routes. Access your gear through the waterproof gusset over the top opening, or open the side zipper when you're roped in. Strap your skis to the sides of the Peuterey, and stash your crampons in the front pouch when you're off the ice. Your ice tools stay secure thanks to Millet's FPP ice-axe holders. The Peuterey also features Millet's Free Flex System which allows independent motion between the waist-belt and harness.

It says there are size zips in the above backpack....just wondering whether they are small slot openings with little real access or substantial enough to get big items like a sleeping bag out of the bottom of the bag?

If you mean side zips, there is actually a panel that is opened with a U-shaped zipper that allows for significant access to the interior of the bag.
