Millet built the Men’s Belay Device Jacket for the devoted belay slave looking to stay warm while his partner flails all over his project. This lightweight puffy features a pass-through hand pocket that gives you direct access to your harness and belay device for feeding rope in frigid conditions. An adjustable hood and drawcord hem help you hunker down, and the dual-zip front zipper lets you keep your device outside the jacket for active ice and mixed climbing. Millet stuffed this jacket’s lightweight Pertex shell with fluffy PrimaLoft Sport insulation to warm your stationary body and included a compression stuff sack for easy packing when it’s finally your turn to climb.
NOTE to US Customers: Our Millet garments display the European size on the label. When ordering, please select your normal US size from the drop-down menu. Please view the sizing chart if you have questions.
Bottom Line: Belay from the toasty confines of this puffy jacket.
If I buy a large will I have enough room for a base layer and a microfleece or at least the fleece? I am 5'10" and 175lbs. I want this jacket really bad.
edit, just ordered it and it's the last Blk Lrg! I'll report back a review soon. Taking it Bishop as soon as it gets here!!
I'd guess you'd be fine in a large - I'm a little taller and wear a large. You can always return it too...Backcountry is great about that kind of stuff.

Just came back from Bishop trip and it just happened to be what the locals call "January weather" the low was 9 degrees. Crazy arctic winds were blowing and I felt fine. Jacket worked well. Didn't do any belaying which didn't matter because it does not have the belay pass thru pocket. Bummer cuz it was the selling point for me. That is the only thing that is making me consider returning it and trying maybe a high down fill perhaps. This jacket works well in 30-40 degrees as an outer layer though. Just thought i was getting the belay aspect.
I am starting to feel the same way of the fit myself. I just purchased a softshell and it is too big to go underneath it. It is a good jacket, but I may try a hoodless jacket since softshell has a hood.
I want to give this 4 1/2 stars - this jacket has become the warmest thing I own, and works perfectly as a belay jacket anywhere from cold crags to snowy summits. The main problem is in the advertising - it doesn't have a pass-through pocket unless you are willing to do some surgery, and I'm not. Otherwise, it works great and won't let you down.
The shell of this jacket its really lightweight .. but really thin as well so i'm thinking it might not withstand a hard fall or getting stuck with a branch
Haven not tried this in really cold weather .... yet.... but will update review as soon as i do construction pays attention to details, outside shell its light so it might not be the best for hard falls on snow The material is great, soft to touch, light, warm, compressible and comes with a stuff sack, i'm so happy i gave a try to this jacket as i was not going to buy it but decided to give it a try (i got the yellow one) so if you are looking for a light jacket, with good quality construction, not puffy, warm and extremely good looking ... look no further... give this a try :)
Actually, my boyfriend wears his with a Black Diamond Half Dome helmet and it fits just fine. Please do not be deterred from the comment from the Backcountry guru, unless Steve can let us know what helmet does not fit.
This is a good quality jacket and fits well. It is an XL and I am 6'0 and weight 230 pounds and it fits perfect! The only minor drawback is the zipper. Since it is a European made jacket, The zipper is on the left instead of the right, making it a little awkward to try and zip if you are use to the zipper being on the right. Kind of like trying to write with your left hand if you are right handed. The hood may be too small for anyone who wants to wear a mountain climbing helmet. Other than that, it is a very good quality jacket.
