Belay Composite Jacket - Men's

Everyone has to do his or her fair share of belaying during a climbing expedition, but Millet definitely didn’t intend for its Belay Composite Jacket to just stay on the ground. Sure, this lightweight, water-resistant, and insulated jacket will trap warmth and protect you from the elements as you feed rope through your device. But with its underarm vents and free-moving elbows, the Belay also can’t wait to grab hold of a pair of tools and dig into the ice.

  • Shell made with Pertex Quantum Microlight fabric to reduce the jacket’s overall weight and increase breathability
  • Shoulders and sleeves made with Element Shield 3L softshell fabric for increased durability, weather protection, and range of motion
  • 100g of PrimaLoft insulation traps in warmth while you belay without causing you to overheat as you climb
  • Large underarm vents allow you to dump heat when you’re giving it your all
  • Attached hood adjusts to fit over your helmet
  • Adjustable cuffs and hem lock out the elements so you can concentrate on the task at hand

Bottom Line: Put your life in its hands.

Good jacket!

Love the under arm zips to cool off; love the hood; love the water-proof fabric which works great and you don't have to pay for the GoreTex name. But this feels more like a shell than a middle layer for insulation. That said, comfortable jacket!

So the ams are not insulated? Is it basically like wearing a insulated vest underneath a shell jacket? Would it be a good ski jacket on cold days?

The arms/ hood consist of a three layer soft shell with a brushed fleece backing. You will certainly pick-up more warmth around the core (as designed), but you’ll defiantly add warmth/ protection throughout the soft shell areas as well. It would not be suited for a stand-alone ski jacket on cold days. It would be perfect to wear skinning up a mountain on cold days and then throwing on an outer shell for the descent. It has large pit zips to help with temperature regulation. You could wear it as the outer layer on moderate ski days, while adjusting your inner layers, based on your body’s thermostat. The Belay Composite would also be ideal for hut to hut trips.

The Ultimate Blend

This is certainly my new favorite jacket! It blends insulation thru the core and soft shell on the hood/ arms/ shoulders - making it the best of both worlds. I've been wearing it for two months now and worn it in Crested Butte, in precipitation and the DWR held strong. Looked great at Camp 4 Coffee as well!
